Wanting a Case folder for EDC

I currently don't EDC any knives. I have an Opinel and a Rat 1 D2, but neither one is in a size category I'd feel comfortable carrying on a daily basis, so I am looking for things in the 2.5-3" length blade range, and I want something more traditional looking, maybe a bit more decorative, and US made. I've mostly centered on Case for this.

In that size category, there are a few knives I've taken an interest in. The mini trapper, the mini copperlock, but I guess since it's slim enough and light enough, the slimline trapper could be a consideration. I had considered modifying a mini trapper to be a single blade to make it even lighter and slimmer, or replace the second blade at some point, but a mini copperlock is basically already that, but with a lockback.

I am just having a hard time deciding which direction to go for a traditional EDC.

Welcome to the forum, and to the traditional section. We call it the porch because it’s like setting on the porch with good friends, doing a little knife show and tell.

The mini trapper has some heft to it. It’s not slim nor light.

The mini copperlock sounds perfect for you. My wife loves hers, and I’ve carried one a fair amount to say I don’t love mine. For me, the front bolsters beak gets in the way. Right where I desire to put my trigger finger. But I use a knife for whittling a lot. So it might suit you just fine.

There is the pocket hunter too. It’s a slim and trim little design.

The peanut is not trim. It’s actually kinda fat for the size it is. But it is a classic.

Not sure of the pattern numbers.
Case medium stockman or "Texas Jack Knife". Both are 3.5 inch closed.
31 canoe with either CV or True Sharp blades. 3.625 inch closed. Primary blade is a hair over 2 9/16 inch bolster to tip. The current production two spring measures 3/8 inch across. I don't have a single spring Case canoe, but I do have a single spring Remington canoe, likely made by Camillus. Closed length is the same. Primary blade is 2 5/8 inch bolster to tip. Width across the bolsters on the single spring is 3/8 inch.

Question: If a multi blade is less than a dime, penny, or even a nickel thicker than a single blade, does it really make a noticable difference in bulk while in your pocket?

Is a mini trapper really only that much thicker though? I don't have any experience with them. An online retailer lists the mini trapper at 0.45" overall width, and the Copperlock is 0.32 inches. The Pocket Hunter is 0.41 inches. Do these numbers seem right?

Looking at more knives of theirs, another one that looks good is the medium toothpick. It's pretty much the Trapper with just one blade and a different shape to the body of it.

if you want some specific pics in comparison or measurements of any of these knives, I’m glad to oblige.

It's as much weight as profile. Or more.

The slimline trapper would probably be my pick for a knife in the size range, most of my favorites are considerably smaller.

Yeah, I am looking for something around the 3" range. I'm leaning towards the mini copperlock, mini trapper, and medium toothpick at this point. The medium toothpick basically has the blade the slimline trapper would have if they made a mini version of that. For the trapper though, I don't think I would ever actually need a second blade, considering I don't even EDC a pocket knife at all right now, and seem to get by just fine without one. It's just a small luxury to have something handy for day to day stuff. A second blade probably doesn't have enough value to me to justify any increase in any dimension when I really think about it.

Also, I'm starting to like wharncliffe blades, so I am starting to like the idea of that version of the copperlock... it's too bad they don't offer that option in the mini copperlock though.

The swayback gent is a trim little knife. I’ve handled one but don’t have an example unfortunately.
