Wanting a fighter/bowie

Hey gang,
I've built up a nice little collection, but as soon as I get one thing that I coveted for months I start hankering for something else.
I've got a Bill Akers damascus hunter, a RMD, a spankin' new RMJ little bird, and a bunch of beefy ZT folders.

The next thing that I will get is a bowie or bowie-like fighter. I will continue to beat the hell out of my RMD, while carrying folders, so this one's purpose will mostly serve as the knife equivalent of a BBQ gun.

While I do like Damascus for its showiness I would rather have good quality stainless with hamon and a figured wooden handle with guard.

What should my budget be for this? Is this likely to be a custom job or does a company put out a good quality bowie as is?

Thanks in advance for your input. I will likely be holding off until May for this purchase so I have some time but won't be going north of $600.

If you want to spend that much you should go custom
But honestly for a fighting knife, it doesnt need to be fancy. Hell even steel isnt terribly important as long as it stabs, slashes, and doesn't break doing so.

Check out tops apache falcon. would make a wicked fighter. If you want something more extravagant take a gander at the knife maker forums.

Hell, the seals used the classic kabar in situations most of us will never see so that's an option as well!

good luck.

Thanks for your reply- I hadn't seen the apache falcon- It looks like a functional knife and has a lot of what I want, but a few things I don't, such as the handle material, and shallow-ish coated blade.

I should have added that I expect to go custom for this and that's where I got the $600 number.

A Randall Model One or good clone like it. A.G. Russell has a special one in stainless for under $600. Also has several Randall #1's in the $500 range. The Randall Model 1 is the standard by which all fighting/combat knives are measured.

I'd be haunting the knife makers exchange here, there are some flat beautiful bowies posted for sale at great prices all the time.

Just recalled the name of a good Randall clone - Blackjack Knives (US made). Have gotten good reviews and are inexpensive ca $200.
Just another one to think about.

If you're looking for a folder check out Emerson. They make some great Bowie style designs. And Bark River for fixed.

I'm good on folders until I take the plunge for a Curtiss or something similar. An Emerson Horseman and a Microtech LUDT was the first "nice" knives I ever bought for myself.

I tooled around the Blackjack inventory today and liked some of their stuff- and the price was hard to beat. I like the stacked leather handles but would rather have a contoured "ergo-like" handle as opposed to straight. Edit- the Halo Attack is on my radar
