Wanting a new folder

If you are determined to spend a lot of money, have at it. But if you want a good knife that will meet your needs I urge you to consider a Douk-Douk. Flat, simple, rugged, good carbon steel, easy to sharpen, and it's been made since 1927 virtually unchanged. There are three sizes now, but the original size (sometimes called either medium or large, depending on who wrote the ad) has a blade about 4 inches long, and it's the best choice in my opinion. No, it doesn't lock open, but as strong as the spring is it doesn't need to! If you just have to have one with a locking blade then get a Mercator. The size and construction are very similar, and it's been made since about WW1. There is a lot to be said for such time tested and simple designs as these two knives!
