Recommendation? Wanting a two handed sword / machete !

:) Something like the Cold Steel Thai Machete , but maybe a little better quality if possible for ~$100 or so .

To be used for redneck martial cutting practice and general weedwacking / brush clearing . ;)
 
Based on your intended use, the Cold Steel katana or waki machetes would fill the void. Fun, utilitarian and they don’t break the bank. For a little more, Condor has some sword shaped offerings! I have the Yoshimi and discord machetes which are both fun and well made.
 
:) I guess I'll just have to go with the Thai Machete . :confused:

Seems like there's nothing much available in an intermediate price range ? :(
 
There really aren’t that many options. Cold Steel has the market for 2 handed machetes under $100 pretty much in hand. The only place I know to get specialist machetes from Tramontina, Imacasa et al. isn’t a sponsor, so I can’t bring them up. Condor HAD some for a little over $100, like the Makara, but their prices have jumped up significantly. I am not a fan of Cold Steel machetes, I bought two in a row that were junk and decided not to ever get any more. Then a friend gifted me a CS katana machetes, and the steel in it does at least take an edge. The handle is just ridiculous though, as it’s designed to look like an ito wrap in plastic and is almost one continual hot spot. The Thai machete looks like it would have a useable handle.

I've had a lot of fun attaching cheap golok/machete blades to old maul handles and sawed off baseball bats to make different two handed choppers that work well for red neck sword practice. If you decide to spend 100 bucks, Condor makes some fun machete styles of good quality. But you can do a lot with cheap stuff too. Here's a video of some of these homemade choppers in action.
 
for whatever it's worth, David Mary (see knifemaker section) makes some very nice 1.5-2 handed pseudo-parangs that are essentially a machete/seax/short sword

if you're nice you might be able to get one for a good price, although probably more than $100 (likely closer to $200, but worth every penny)

Cold Steel is probably better choice if you aren't super familiar with the type. I do highly recommend David after picking up his seax parang prototype :thumbsup:

LT Wright also makes an awesome machete, one which I hope to someday own. I think they're about ~$150, but also amazing quality

personally, I'd rather go LT Wright than Cold Steel. I like Cold Steel, but LT Wright is quite nice quality, perhaps a bit of a step up from a Cold Steel machete.

But I don't know of anything other than David Mary's that is more than a 1 handed model
