Wanting ideas for my first Becker.....

I honestly expected Clich to describe the incredible brush-clearing capabilities of the BK5....(joking!)

I was thinking how I could recommend the bk5......but just a straight brush clearer there are better. Now if he said he wanted to do ANYTHING else with it, then a bk5 it is :D

I also recommend a BK-9.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet but...

Great suggestion man, can't believe that no one else thought of this

Also, off topic, but what kind of tree is that BK9 on? I had TONS of those in my backyard when I lived in OH as a kid (West Chester area, kinda by Kings Island) and I've never known what the heck they were officially called.

All I know is that they ate like 15 soccerballs...

all I know is if you try to burn those dang thorn trees out of your fields...the thorns harden from the heat into solid steel and they WILL stob your tires! issa fact

After some google-foo, I finally found it (if anyone is interested), and I thought it was interesting and would post it here.

Its called a honey locust, and it is the spawn of satan.

Its apparently found from texas to the east coast, and in OH it is more commonly found in the southwest part of the state (where I lived). And they are frequently linked to foot injuries, and flat tires.

More photos to prove how crazy they are.

And to stay on topic (sorry for that, its been driving me nuts for years), have you considered a cheap tram machete or trying to find a BK6 Patrol Machete for more reach while you are sitting on your ATV? I mean, just seeing the thorns on this tree makes me think about more reach if I was going to do what you were talking about doing.

We have trees like that all over our cabin, those hurt like a son of a bitch for days after you get stuck with one. Constantly have to dig them out of my arms, hands, boots......miserable trees.

Some kind of locust (black locust I think) and those thorns will kick your butt. Pretty sure that's what BushOgre got stuck in his hand a while back. They are pointy!

Edit: or Honey Locust :p

I have had to almost put a horse down because he got a Locust thorn in the soft of his hoof. His ankle got as big as football and puss drained for several days before we could get him caught to check it out. He finally laid down and couldn't walk and he was running a high fever from the infection. Vet pulled a locust thorn out the length of my Spyderco Delica blade! After a couple weeks of injections and wound washing he got better. Point is, don't mess with locust thorns...

You are correct sir, I had a one inch long section wedged in my right middle fingers first knuckle. After a week or two, the damn thing still would come out and it landed me in the hospital on IV antibiotics for a blood infection. Good times.

I second the Patrol Machete, especially if you have to deal with those suckers! But it will probably cost you a fortune, so either the Patrol Machete or the BK9.
