Wanting to ID Schrade knife

Hello,
I am new to collecting knives and am looking to collect schrade in particular, as I already have a few. I do have one which I have not been able to ID yet. It is a Schrade with the crest on the handle. The ID on the blade is stamped "Schrade USA 899". I have been unable to find reference of an 899. I have found reference to an 8993 and 8994 which look identical other than the bolsters, and that my knife has a punch blade on the one single bladed end. I was thinking that the 4 digit codes were for the very old Schrade knives, so I don't think this number has anything to do with the knife I have.

Any help in identifying this would be a real help. I am trying to determine the approximate mfg. time line.

Thanks,
Matt

Matt,
Welcome to the forum.
Your 899 has been around for a long time. It was part of the open stock offering after the Old Timers and Uncle Henry's became the catalog stars.
I have it in my 1954 Schrade Walden catalog copy. Price in 1955 was $4.95.
I've attached a section for you.
Hope this helps somewhat.

A little more info.
In 1973 Schrade Walden started using the Schrade tang stamp and I do not see the 899 after 1986 where it sold for $18.95
So your knife was made best guess between 1974-1986

That 899 is on my list of ancestors for the 897UH Signature Premium Stock (1967). Several older open stock knives are similar.

Irv...

You and delander are making things very difficult about the legendary "Magnificent 7 UNFOLDER"...I'm trying to get a flatbed scanner, as I keep feeding the knife into my all-in one and it keeps getting stuck on the rollers.....oh, those dad gum peripherals...:jerkit:

P.S.
How is your green Schrade ball??

Ive been meaning to ask is it better that its green or blue? I'll have to go look and see if they have changed color.
Hey You can always just send the "Magnificent 7 UNFOLDER" to me for picture taking and fondling. Im sure to get it back to you eventually.
