Yes the armpit carry ballpeen hammer rig. Who could forget? The world is a lesser place without him.
 
There is a guy named Adam Thiele (AdiThiel) in Budapest who makes some pretty neat historically accurate war hammers....

The closest thing that might be possible to carry in public would be a cane or walking stick with a hammer head .

Solid hardwood shaft with a claw or ball peen hammer at the top would be good enough . Less weaponized the better for carry .

Not too heavy if wanting for SD . Doesn't need to be unless you've got muggers wearing full suits of armor . ;)

Tungsten head (for density and concentrated impact transfer) with a titanium shaft. G10 handle attached to the shaft via an elastomeric joint for shock absorption.
