Warenski Inspired Vest Dagger

Yeah, Blackjack did one in the early 90's that was real similar if memory serves.

I loved this as soon as I saw it. Because it reminded me of an SR Johnson blade I did years ago. Maybe he was inspired by Warenski. Here it is. It's all good!

I first saw this Chute Knife when it was brand new and offered for sale on True North Custom Knives site (I believe it was), must have been about 10 years ago. Kicked around purchasing it too long until it was gone. Always been one of my favorite SR Johnson knives of all time. Also, one of the most beautiful Giraffe bone handles I've ever seen.

Nice job on the grinds, looks like a difficult knife to make.

Sasaho yari. Blade is a leaf shaped or bamboo leaf shaped dagger grind on one side, flat with a hollow on the other.

It's a Japanese spear, and this type of design was somewhat common in the late 1600's.

Very interesting Steven. I did a web search on yari - looks like you hit the nail on the head for the grind influence that Warenski used. I am going to research it a bit more and may modify the design on paper to round out the back end of the blade to be more leaf or bamboo leaf shaped. :)

Loveless studied design at college. He was fascinated by history of arms. He patterned elements of the Big Bear from Italian handles and gave credit freely for his inspirations.

This Blackjack Blackmoor Dirk example is probably from the early '90's.

Notice the hollow grind.
Thanks Kevin. At first glance, I would not have know that Johnson's knife was considered a chute knife. Interesting
It isn't. It's a boot dagger variant. A chute has an asymmetrical handle.
