That is one thing I miss around here - a real winter. We get frost and sometimes it will drop to the high 20s, but that is about it. I have to head up into the mountains for snow (where they are forecasting an additional 10 feet of new snow over the next few days).
Bushcraft - Rocketbomb has it right. My father is a photographer, and if I learned anything from him, good pictures are a combination of being in the right place at the right time and the ability to compose the shots. If you like something, work the scene and take pictures from various angles, with various compositions, and you will usually get something decent.
