I pre-ordered my Spyderco Burgundy Calypso from PoliceGearUSA back in February and have waited patiently for these months to get it. I can't blame the dealer for this because I know the knife's been delayed for a long while. But I know the knife's been shipped out to most dealer's so I got kinda worried when I didn't get any info about mine from PoliceGearUSA.
I called them today and was told the PoliceGearUSA had been merged into LAPoliceGear and that they have no information whatsoever about past orders. They said the best they could do for me was for me to tell my credit card to dispute the charge.
I'm already pissed as it is over the long wait for the knife, but the crappy customer service just adds fuel to the fire. Just some thoughts.

Sorry to hear about it.

Make sure you post this in the Exchange section under "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly". That way it will warn everyone about their crappy service.

If they have no info on past orders, they won't be able to tell your card company the order was ever filled or is even pending. The main hurdle might be the late date. SOme cards won't do disputes past a certain time.

That sucks. I've always had good service with LAPoliceGear. But I've only bought clothing and flashlight stuff from them.

If it was a preorder and the knife was never shipped, you really should never have been charged for the merchandise. This comapny can't prove they shipped the merch because they "have no information whatsoever about past orders" so how can they then charge you for an order they have no record of? I would keep on them about it, and I know it can get frustrating, because their mismanagement of the merger, or however you wish to term it, is putting you out. You are blameless as far as I can see from the facts laid out.

Do get in touch with your card company. Carl64 is right that you usually only have a certain amount of time to dispute a charge. It varies from issuer to issuer. Explain to them that you only have come to know there are problems with the order recently because it was a preorder. See if someone from your card company will make a call on your behalf or do a 3-way call with you and the merchant. Make sure to write down names, dates and times of who you speak to and what they say, for the credit card and the merchant.

You may also consider contacting the Better Business Bureau if it's not resolved to your satisfaction since the merchant seems to be offering an indifferent attitude towards your legitimate complaint. If they make a good faith effort to help and it doesn't work out, that's one thing. But if they just don't seem to care, that's something else entirely. Don't hesitate to tell the merchant you will take this action if necessary.

Thanks for the response and advice guys. I've already contacted my credit card company, and it seems that eveything will be taken care of. I'll call back to make sure it is. But you're right jugigatame, it really irked me that they charged me for a preorder. It just seems like a really bad business policy. So I guess the gist of my gripe is that if you guys ever think about preordering anything from this company, just know that they charge you immediately, whether you get your stuff or not. It also seems like a stupid policy to get rid of info on all past orders just because you merger websites. Hell, I don't think it would have too much to ask for them to tell their customers they were doing it. Oh well, live and learn.

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear you didn't lose any money. Your post was timely, since I was going to order some flashlight accessories from them.
