WARNING! Don't get CLP on RC-4 handles!

White spirit will rub it straight off, or brake-disc cleaner - anything aggressively degreasing will do.

I believe we call that Coleman Fuel/white gas here. I've also heard that it is used as dry cleaning solvent. An excellent degreaser indeed, but I've always been able to get the micarta cleaned up with a fingernail brush and lots of dish soap.

Maybe try some Dawn soap and water. Just joking about how many times this was posted! Micarta only absorbs the very top of the fibers that have been opened up while sanding all other fibers are completely soaked with resin.

A CLP stain I could probably live with, but I've seen that armadillo fat story a few times and it sounds pretty bad each time. :barf:

It was probably my other post awhile back trying to figure out how to get rid of it. Can't be that many people in my situation, I think everyone else instinctively knows better. Every time I think it's gone it oozes back out a day or two later.

Yep, it was you. Awesome thread.

I think it is indicative of this subform that these kinds of questions even come up. Really, when was the last time you read "HELP: How to get <insert oddball game animal or random gun lube> off my Sebenza?"

(No offense to anyone; I am a Sebenza owner as well. :p)

I'm going to have to disagree with everyone else. You're screwed. Go ahead and send the knife my way and I will properly dispose of it for you. You can trust me, I'm an expert.

Micarta gets dirty if you just look at it funny

I've used rubbing alcohol and acetone to clean my rc5 handles and it works pretty well but I've found out that hot water and soap to be the best

Hey everyone,

Well I cleaned my RC-4's handle slabs with some Dawn dish soap and hot water.

They came out looking like new!

Thanks everyone for the advice!:D

Thanks for the info, I wouldn't of thought that CLP would do that to a grip. CLP really is great stuff though! All of us who have served have had more than our fair share of that stuff, it's almost like duct tape, it has 1000 different uses.

I can still taste CLP in my mouth from cleaning my weapon and then taking a dip of tobacco, that taste will stay with me forever.

LOL I hear ya! I love the stuff. Nothing like the smell of CLP in the morning!

I am so glad to have come across this thread....I could not bear the thought of my hunting/survival/using/beater RC4 being dirty or with discolored handles:thumbup:

I got some on my rc4 canvas handles after its first use. It was rem oil, that oil will actually evaporate in time. If it is just a little bit you can watch it evaporate. I washed mine and it still had a mark, but after a few days I looked at it and its fine now.
