Warning on 1st Generation Native sale - got cut

Sal, I've known you to be a stand up guy since I first met you at the New York custom knife show in the early 80s. I appreciate the integrity of Spyderco as a company and continue to be both amazed and delighted and the constant innovation and new designs. Nobody can fault the intention you had with the lower priced Native project and I'm just sorry it didn't work out. I'm a firm believer that you have to take chances occassionaly if you want to win and that you have to be prepared to fail and learn from your failures. Anyway, just keep coming out with more goodies I'll keep buying and using Spydercos.

Anyone remember the Cadillac Cimarron?

If Cadillac can recover from the Cimarron, Spyderco can recover from the BRK Native ;)

Hey phantom, you are not understanding me. They sent me a replacement knife that was not the same as the original model. I wanted them to fix the micarta/screw problem instead of getting another model knife. I was willing to pay...they said no.

The knife that was damaged due to the brittle ATS55 had the tip reground, but they wouldn't replace the knife or give me a new blade, even though it was a manufacturer's defect. I said I'd pay for the new blade, they told me the parts were in Japan and they don't do that type of work.

I still buy spyderco, I just more careful now and am not suprised when they are not perfect or don't hold up to normal use w/o repair.

Per Sal's remarks, sounds like Spyderco needed some cash, i.e. the BRK native...all businesses need to make money.

I've got one of those "econo-natives" from SMK and it isn't bad at all. They must vary shift to shift or ? I just don't like the feel in hand.I wished I could have held one prior to buying one sight un-seen.I paid $22.00 plus a zillion dollars shipping for mine.Oh,well it'll make good trading material.tom.

I also bought one of those for $25.00 delivered thinking that it would be a good intro to Spyderco. My only big complaint is that it is very hard to open. Very stiff and no amount of lubrication and working it loosened it. And it was dull. Good to know that this is not representative of the product line.
