This may not be THE best place. Not sure if there are enough places.

I got an email from "Ranger2" asking if my problem with a certain vendor had been solved because he had a problem with the same vendor. There was a link to click on to respond.

Problems: 1) the message did not come through BF as it claimed (I get full headers on my email so I can check to see if they are what they say they are. This came from Netscape.); 2) there is no BF member named "Ranger2" according to the Advanced Search function; 3) I don't recall ever doing business with that vendor.

I did not click on the link to ask what was going on. Some such links have been known to download a virus or to gather info for spammers.

Not saying this isn't something innocent, but think before you click.

I should have said that "Ranger2" has no posts. So I suppose it could be a member who never posts.

Nothing when I "hover," but using the properties command I get:
"sendmessage.php?do=mailmember&u=171691"

The email was sent from a netscape email account.

To give cougar the most info, from your email inbox window, drop the questionable post into a new message and send that to cougar. That should let cougar see all the header info. If you just forward it to him, I think all he will see is the message data back to you. At least that's the way Outlook works for us at my company.

He sent it on to me. That's the way Bladeforums email looks since the last software upgrade. Both the from field and the reply-to link are perfectly normal -- it was sent through Bladeforums and reply-to link is not a phishing link; it's just one way that the system gives you to reply. I guess that was the first email Thomas Linton got through Bladeforums since the upgrade.

So if anybody else gets an email from Ranger2, don't worry about it.

It was more that his email said I had posted about a problem with a vendor when I nether posted that I had a problem with that vendor or ever did business with that vendor.

We live in troubled times.

Perhaps its all a misunderstanding.

I hope.

Thomas, I know what it's like. I've gotten emails from forum members, and a few will forget to use a real name or a forums name, just their email address which may not match either. I have no idea who the question is from or why they're asking me.

We do live in troubled times. I have no hesitation in deleting suspicious emails before opening them.

I think he just confused you with someone else. With almost 80,000 users there are lots of similar usernames.

I suppose I should move this to Bladeforums Service & Support.

Gnällbältet means the folks here sound like Fran from "The Nanny".

ps. You haven't replied to my exclusive offer on those iPods and Nokias. Please stop deleting my emails before reading them! :D

I only accept cephalopods and nougat.
My email's spam filter rejects offers not in English.
