It WILL burn a hole in your pants, car seat, fleece, and on your skin. This thing throws BALLS of fire that stay lit and melt! Once you learn how this thing works, it really is a pyro's true friend. Rat's new steel is truly a real fire spitter. Awesome.

No contest. Harder to light, but that one strike that you get the sparks on, flames everything.

Imagine a light my fire steel that shot white hot sparks. Now imagine those hot sparks hanging around for a second. Now a couple of seconds. Sometimes, a coal is formed and you can work it into your ball of tinder as well. I will have a full review up on woodsmonkey in the future.

sorry, I don't feel the same way. I've got wool stuff but both have their place. The burning is about the only downfall, and neither of those hurt the skin.

I've never been in a situation where I considered building a fire inside my vehicle - yet.

I've got some of that same type of steel from another source. Got some HUGE lengths of it and had to saw them in half. At first I thought I had gotten some crap stuff, since it doesn't light the same way. But boy, when those things go, they really go. It's globs of molten metal flying off. They've actually burned my glass coffee table! Not to mention to carpet.

Getting a spark can be tricky for me, still. I find that having a longer rod really makes things easier. (Insert inappropriate joke here :D)

I dunno... it sounds like people use these things in places that never occurred to me... cars, living rooms...

I guess now that the fire kit is a go...or in the works Jeff removed the rod only...I almost bought some but I did not and now there gone...this was I think 2 weeks ago...
