This may have already been brought up before but I thought it would be worth mentioning again even if it had. I picked up a couple of pair of shorts the other day at Walmart. One pair was a Wrangler distressed type jean short. They were quite comfortable off the rack so I just put them on and started wearing them that day. I did quite a few chores around the house with my ebony Churchhill in my pocket and later that afternoon I took my knife out of my pocket to use it and it felt gritty in my hand. As I looked it over it had a very fine sandy type material all over it from the bottom of the pockets. Of course the oil on the knife just attracted it in. And as I looked over the knife I could tell that it had rubbed areas on to the bolsters and basically gave the whole knife a light sand blasting. I gave the knife a good cleaning and generally I wasn't too worried about it since this is my user knife but I imagined having a really nice knife in my pocket without a slip and it basically giving it a sandblasting. So it was my hope to just give everybody a heads up so that they don't learn the hard way like I did and end up having a surprise they weren't expecting. I'll be washing those jeans first with the pockets pulled out in the future.IMG_4124.PNG

All of the knives I carry look like this. Over time, more scratches fill in the bare spots and actually makes the bolsters look more uniform. Only in the start do they tend to look that bad.

Wranglers are the worst. Actually that might not be true since I only wear Wranglers and I don't have anything else to compare them to. But I've found actual pumice stones the size of a nickel in some of my new Wranglers.

I agree with you Jake. A few of mine have an overall pocket worn look to them after a while. These jeans will give you that ancient look in just one afternoon.:D

John, I am definitely going to be checking the pockets now!!!!!o_O I never thought of pumice but that's probably what it is.

Thanks for the heads up, that is something I would never have considered. I've tried to wash all clothes before wearing them since I read manufactures use chemical preservatives that can be absorbed thru the skin, on their finished products. I once ruined an antique lighter in one day by carrying it in a cement factory. Live and learn.

I don’t think a little wear is going to ruin a knife.

You're absolutely correct. "Ruined" was a poor choice of words. I'm not sure what the right word is. Whatever the word is for putting your brand new Tony Bose one-of-a-kind custom in your pocket that you're not sure you want to keep word. I know for me personally with my old failing mind it would be the word "stupid". But it just didn't seem to fit correctly in the post:)

I wash ALL new clothes first.. NEVER wear new clothes without washing.. John

My wife and I normally do as well! But that day I got complacent and they were oh so soft already!!!

Been there done that. Grit collects in my pockets throughout the day. I learned to develop the habit of checking for it periodically. It will rub and scuff your knife badly sometimes depending how abrasive it is.

LOL yes I remember those Sears jeans my mother would get us. STIFF and BLUE when new. Patches added as they wore holes in them. :)

Pre -shrunk, pre-washed, pre half wore out when you buy them:oops:
Remember getting new jeans you could not wear until they were washed, stood up by themselves they were so stiff.

Remember Tough Skin Jeans? Lol
When the knees wore out, my Mom would iron on patches over the knees. So stylish!

This reminds me I need to get a slip or two from a couple knives where should I post for such recommendations? The traditional section or over in the Sheaths & Such? I have been trying to find good jeans myself I have worn Lucky Brand, Daniel Cremieux, Lee, Levi, & most recently Wrangler. I will say so far the Wrangler have been comfortable and I am feeling good about their durability. I was also suggested to try out Diamond Gusset but they are about 2x the cost of Wranglers maybe more but they are American made and for me local.

You might find that after washing them with the pockets turned inside out, the sand is gone but now they are caked with blue lint. A cheap lint roller will take care of that nicely.
