I have absolutely no proof at all that simonmcg set out to screw me, but I am 99.9% sure that he did. At best, he has deliberately jerked me around, several times, for reasons unknown.

It's a long and sordid story, so I'm not going to detail the entire thing, but I'm going to post enough that people can make up their own minds before doing business with him.

If you are considering doing business with him, I have every single email he sent and every single email that I sent also, and they tell the full story in detail.

Any quotes are directly from the emails, parentheses are just my thoughts at the time.

simonmcg sent me an email offering to trade a Busse Assault Shaker + $50 for a basic #7 that I had posted.

I replied and we worked out the details, and agreed to both ship on Monday, Sep 27th.

The package I sent him arrived the next Monday. I know this because of a post on rec.knives, not because he let me know it arrived.

On Wed, Sep 5th I emailed him and told him it looked like the PO had screwed up and lost the package, and asked if the Basic #7 had shown up yet.

He replied that the Basic #7 had indeed shown up, and immediately offered to send money for a new knife, via western union, the next day.

I replied and told him in no uncertain terms that it was not his fault the PO lost the package, but that I did appreciate the offer....( after all, I could not prove he never sent a package for the PO to lose )

He insisted on buying me a new knife, and asked did I still want an Assault Shaker...

I told him that yes, I still wanted an Assault Shaker, and that if he was absolutely sure this was what he wanted to do, that was fine with me.

He replies that he is sure, and now asks if I can wait a few days and he will send it through western union...( What a great guy he is, right? )

I replied and told him that instead of sending an unspecified amount of money, why not just order an Assault Shaker from Busse and have it sent to me?

He replied and recommended Larry from bladeart, as that would be faster. He again asks if I'm sure I want an Assault Shaker, and asks for my information.

I send him my information.

He replies that he will order it "soon", on Monday next, he thinks.

The next Wednesday, I email him to ask if he has ordered yet, beause he said he would order it on Monday.

He replies and says no, "Can you order it yourself?", "because that's easiest"..And again asks for my info!

I send him my info AGAIN, and ask if he is going to send the money via western union...( Honestly, at this point I'm fairly certain he won't be sending anything, but I can't figure out why he's stringing me along )

He replies that he will send it "tomorrow I think" and that "I would have done it today as I was in western union but I forgot all about you."...

( How would he have sent it without my information that he had to ask for again? )

I did not hear from him the next day, so I sent him an email, and flat out asked him if he was really going to send any money, or was he just jerking me around for some unknow reason..

He replies that no, he did not send it, but that he will do it on Saturday. He also tells me that he would not reply to my email if he did not intend on giving me the money. He says "It will be on saturday. Thats a promise. I think I said that allready, but realy, it will be saturday."

Well, of course Saturday rolls around and no email, and no money sent...I'm really irritated now. I send an email to him pointing out that once again he has not done what he said he would, and that I was not surprised.

I further told him I had wasted enough time & energy with this, and that I was done with it.

I told him "I have no proof of what you have done, so I won't bother posting or reporting on it, so you have nothing to worry about."

"As to whether you sent anything in the first place, or ever intended to send any money, only you know if you did, and I don't really care either way."

"I hope you are happy with the Basic #7 that I sent you, and I hope you get lots of use out of it also."

He replies on Sunday telling me that the money has been sent, but not to collect it until Tuesday as they said it might be "delayed", because of the problems over here.

Like a naive idiot, I replied and apologized for finally getting irriated, and even invited him to drop by if he was ever in Austin!

On Monday, I try to use the money tracker on the western union site to see if the payment is available, but I need a phone number for the form.

I call western union, to ask just what information I am going to need to pick up a payment, just in case it really does ever arrive.I then email him and request the information I will need to recieve the payment.

He replies with the information, and again tells me not to pick it up until Tuesday.

Generous to a fault, he says he has sent me $200, for some reason.

I email him back, asking why he sent $200, and also asking why he never once asked me if the package he sent arrived.

He replies that he just forgot about it once the Basic #7 I sent to him arrived, and does not bother to comment on the $200 amount.

I email him on Tuesday, telling him that western union has no record of him sending any money, and they are not aware of any delays at all. ( Western Union says payment should have been available within an hour after he sent it on Sunday.)

I tell him I need a Money TransferControl Number.

He replies that he will get the number from western union. He does not have the number because he threw the reciept away! He says western union is closed there, so he will get it tomorrow. He again assures me that he is not "messing me about"...

( I called western union, and they were not closed in Ireland yesterday, or any other day for that matter ).

So, here we are today, and still no money transfer control number...why am I not surprised.

I still have no idea why this POS has been stringing me along, and like I said before, I can't prove he screwed me, but I can promise you he does not do what he said he will do. If he really did send a package, it's the only time he actually did what he said he would.

If you are thinking of dealing with this guy, make sure you have the money in hand before you send anything, and do yourself a favor and do not trade with him unless you get his first.

Screwing people over is bad enough, but then having some fun by jerking someone around is truly odious, and this POS seems to truly enjoy it :(

I have sent a link to this post and the post I will putting on knifeforms, so that simonmcg can respond if he feels a need to.

Just in case simonmcg changes his username here or on knifeforums, here is his information, so that you can do a search on his information before doing business with him :

KWM,

Well, I won't be holding my breath waiting for him to repsond here or elsewhere. In fact, it makes no difference to me what he does, because I wash my hands of the POS.

Trust me when I say there is no amount of money or knife worth the hassle and aggravation of dealing with simonmcg.

Mike,

After reading your post I feel that you've been very patient and have taken reasonable steps in your effort to resolve the issue and then warn others aboout this individual. I feel that this is ANOTHER of those instances when we as fellow knifeknuts need to rally and send this guy some messages that the knife community is a small one this behaviour will NOT be tolerated. I have sent you an email.

I posted this over on KF originally:

"An unfortunate turn of events...I have had several transactions with Simon without a hitch, money was there, often more than originally negotiated, and no monkey business."

I still think he's good for it.

(I know Larry at BladeArt has done business with him as well.)

Man, what a shame. Simon, I hope you read these posts and realize that you have violated a sacred trust between those persons who deal on this forum. I hope it was worth it, because you will have one hell of a time ever buying or trading with any of us again!:barf:

Well, simonmcg still inists he sent money, and like a dumbass I believed it, again...I wasted some more time trying to pick up money that is not there.

I honestly do not know what this guys problem is, but anyone that does business with him deserves what they get, or don't get, as the case may be...

This whole thing is beyond low...

It seems Simon David McGlynn from Ireland is at it again. On KF Simon listed a number of knives for sale. I emailed him about a Busse #9 he had. He also told me he had a used Basic #7 he would include in our deal for a extra $50! (sound familiar Mike?). We agreed on a price and the funds were sent by Western Union on 12/9/01. I received a email from Simon on 12/10/01 that he would send the Busse's that day or the next and I would get a tracking #. It has now been 1 week and I and others on KF who also sent money to Mr. McGlynn have not received their tracking #'s and my repeated emails to Simon go unanswered. I have done a deal with Mike in the past and I believe him to be an honest man. His experence with Simon should be enough for anyone considering doing business with Simon to get what they deserve, a con and a screwing.

Aww,hell!it aint none of my business but I gotta say something! If this guy does not come through then he truly is worthless.I think of all the times I have purchased knives from you folks and have sold knives to you folks and have never had any trouble.I never once thought of screwin someone out of trade or money,I mean especially on here all you have is your good name, why destroy your rep over a measly amt of money? Why dont the forums have a banned list or a warning list of deadbeats? And whats with this guy forgetting all your info,I mean I run a large company and even though I am quiet busy at times I always immediately do what I say when I say it.Man that really sucks and I hope it works out for you.

I sent Simon $200 via Western Union on Friday the 7th. My gut feeling was 50/50. His price for a Battle Mistress was too good to be true, but others have scored a great deal so I thought maybe it was my turn. I've been in a position where I gave some pretty good deals when I needed some cash as well. He sounded pretty sincere in his emails, and threw around Tom's Marshman's name as a reference.

The lesson here is listen to your gut feeling. If it isn't 100 percent, don't do it.

Time will tell if we all got taken. I just hope if he does rip me off he spends my money on his daughter for Christmas, if he really has one.

Mike,

I am truly sorry that this happened to you. Maybe this will at least brighten your day for a minute. The Schrade Tough Tool that you so generously gave to me to give to my nephew, hasn't left his side since he got it. He takes it everywhere and uses it daily. He still can't believe that "some guy neither of us knew" gave it to him. Guys, Mike is definitely one of the good guys here at BFC. It's too bad that his trusting nature has been taken advantage of.

This is really Sad. Simon, if you are READING this, step up and do the right thing. You have now SCREWED several folks here and on BF. DO NOT go into the record book as a GENUINE CROOK!!!! Simon, you are better than this. Do the right thing ASAP.........Ira

Mark,

As one of the people that I've traded with here, and as one of the even fewer that I've had multiple transactions with, your name and word are 'as good as gold' to me...

I really hope that Simon steps up to the plate, and gets his act together SOON!

Best of luck guys, best of luck

"Here in So Cal, bummed for you"
