Hey guys, summer's coming and most of us will be taking to the woods and streams for some great rec. Time to check your kits. I checked the minikit in a fishing tackle box (that hasn't been used for about 1.5 years)yesterday and couldn't believe what I found, the uncoated BSA ferro rod had corroded horribly. There were massive pits in the rod. When I tried to create a spark, it broke in half, making two very small and difficult to strike pieces. Lessons learned.
I'm unpacking and checking all my gear today and making sure all of my ferro rods get cleaned and recoated with clear nail polish for protection.

.
The moment you don't go venure out into the woods anymore, it's time to go over your kit and always give the firesteel a good clear coating of nail polish

That explains what happens years ago with the Aitor knife I had.
