Warped buffalo horn

So I got the bright idea to try my hand on something artsy (I'm thinking daggers for my wife:D), so I bought 2 cylinders of buffalo horn from Jantz. They are warped. They are 5" long, and at the worst, when laid on a straightedge they have a 1 to 1.5mm gap at the middle. Is this unusual for a 1.25" horn cylinder? I guess I am wondering if I should try and return them, try to straighten them (in which case I need guidance on how) or should I just cut them up for spacers?

With most horn and antler they can be boiled in a pot of water for about 20 - 30 min. Do Not let the pot run out of water! Then have evrything ready like gloves to handle the hot horn/antler, and a couple of boards to clamp in a vice, and the vice roughly adjusted to size.
Take it straight from the boiling water and clamp between to boards securely in the vice and let sit for at least 24 - 48 hrs.
When it comes out it will stay whatever shape you clamped it in, straight, or a bow or what ever you manuplated the shape to while clamping.
A word of advice do this outside over a fish cooker or something similar as Mamma is going to PO'ed off when her whole house smells like that stinking horn, and they all smell when you boil them.

I would have the horn stabilized, water buffalo is notorious for shifting, warping and even cracking later on. Changes in weather will change the horn.
