Hope you guys haven't answered this one a million times. I'm stumped. I'm getting a slight warp, mainly in the tang, while heat treating and quenching 3/32 1095 steel. I do o grinding pre-HT, apart from the blade profile. I do drill pin holes in the tang, along with holes to take off weight. I try to keep the holes symmetrical. I use an Evenheat oven. Three normalizing cycles--at 1550, 1450 and 1350 degrees--followed by a 1500 degree heat, a 10 minute soak, and quench.

Ideas? Solutions? I do pluck the blades from the oven by grabbing the end of the tang, if that makes a difference.

Try clamping the blade between aluminum plates after your oil quench. I do that with my blades and they come out nice and straight.

I use an evenheat oven as well. I think the blades can slightly warp when they are rested against the upright ceramic rods inside my oven. When the blade gets up to temp, it can slump slightly due to gravity and heat.

I admittedly stole this idea from Stacey, but it's worked very well for me. Quench plates after oil, and put them in a large pipe vise to really squeeze it. It makes a huge difference

Maybe normalize, then grind, then do a 1200F or so stress relief cycle?
