Warranty. Ever used it? What about...

I got to thinking about the Sebenzas that I've owned. Not only are they built really (really) well, they are probably the strongest knives I've had. I'm comparing to the Striders and my Contego. The Sebbie is just plain stout.

Have you ever actually needed the warranty? If so, what for?

Chris says they've had *maybe* 100 broken Sebenza blades total, and I'm inclined to believe him. I LOVE the way the spine and point are made.

Okay, so have you used the warranty...

Also. When you buy a used CRK, is the warranty transferable? If I buy a used one and it comes with the warranty card can I just send that in? Do you NEED to send one in to get service?

I haven't seen these questions addressed. I know I can call or email, but I'd like to have it here for anyone looking. Thanks!

Ive got a Large Reg that had a cracked BG 42 blade at some point.
She sports a S30V now, but this all took place prior to my purchase.

I do have the invoice, work order supporting this info & indicating there was no charge for anything including shipment.

I've only had 1 "warranty claim", a large classic 21 (purchased used, no paperwork or card) I sent in with a sticky lockbar. No charge for anything and it came back good as new.

Other things, like a lost screw or o-rings for the umnum, they have sent out immediately on request.

In my experience, they have some of the best customer survive I've experienced in general, and they likely have the best in the industry. Also, I've never sent in a registration card, but I have sent more than several in for the spa treatment and double lug installation.

I owned a small 21 that came with a very strong detente and was virtually impossible to open one handed. I sent it in to CRK and had it back within a week. Not only did they totally address that issue, but they also re-blasted the pocket clip which had developed some scuffs and scratches in the few weeks I had carried it. I sent it in at my expense and they returned it free with a check for $14 to cover my postage expenses. I've since sold that knife--only own Regulars now--but that was first class customer service.

Strig--CRK customer service is incredible, but they do have limitations. For example, if a handle has been heavily scotch-brited and the chamfers have been rounded they will likely not re-blast it. The good news, is that they are honest and consistent, so if you have bought a knife used you can send it in and they will be up front with you on what services they will perform and the ones they will not.

I have sent them a few knives I bought used and they have always taken care of me.

Sent back a ~dozen year old user BG42 small LH Regular user that had developed a little bit of lock-rock. It was fixed free, and fast. Most warranties would have expired, or excluded "ordinary wear and tear." Oh, by the way - I was not the original owner, either. :)

I purchased a new sebenza and sent it in for double thumb studs. A few weeks after I got it back, I noticed it had a hairline fracture from outer diameter of the stud to the spine of the blade. I called heather to let her know there was a stress fracture from the new thumb stud. They paid to overnight it to ID, replaced the blade the next day, and overnighted it back the following day. When it returned, there was a CRK 'T' shirt in the package. Three days and not one penny of expense!! That is the best customer service I have ever recieved.....anywhere. They stand by their warranty.

Wow guys, I'm seriously impressed. I've had some amazing CS by Benchmade, and it sounds like CRK is just as good.

I realize that we pay for these services in the price of the knife, but it sure is comforting to know that it's there if I need it. And the hook up on used knives is outstanding. It truly makes me comfortable with my decision to continue supporting the company.

I scratch their back, they scratch mine. Exactly as it should be! ;)

what!
I want a T-shirt!

Thanks again guys.

I wanted to say something, but don't want to make a new thread on it. Just putting it out there for anyone doing a search.

My 25 was fairly hard to open when I got it. I've seen others report the same. I considered (for a brief second) using some high grit sandpaper to *very lightly* chamfer the detent hole. Instead I just opened and closed the blade about a billion times. I'm very pleased to report that it has gotten much better. Much closer to my old 21's. I'm getting happier owning this knife... :)

Now that is truly Awesome! :)

I have/have owned 89 CRK to date and have had a couple warranty issues over the years. ALL were taken care of by CRK immediately. Some I bought pre owned and the issue was caused by the previous owner; pinched/gouged washers from improper assembly to name a few. The warranty follows the knife, not only the original owner. CRK has taken care of my anytime I have called upon them. This is why I have owned so many. Not only do they make what I personally feel is the finest knives in the industry for their intended use, they also have the finest warranty in the industry. My loyalty to them is through my own personal experience.

89??? damn dude I have 1 and working on #2. Its really nice to hear just how great their CS truly is, he has made an amazing company.

Wow, 89? That's a lot from ANY knife company. How fortunate that you've been able to sample that many luxury knives. :)

Do you have a break down of how many of each model you've owned? If I knew from the start that I'd be able to try that number of CRKs I would be tempted to try all of the popular designs (both fixed and folding), but if it was piecemeal over the years I'm sure I'd end up choosing a vast majority of Large Sebenzas (in their various incarnations) as well as some 'zaans, probably a ti light too.

As for the hole, I never minded it. Actually, I'd rather have it if it meant that I could have the lanyard pin hole back on the 25. Man I miss that thing.

I actually do have a break down of every one I have ever had. Kept track in a notebook over the years. I will list it for ya later on. Some I still have, some are gone. The most I have had at one time was 37, but am not sure what I have now. Definitely not that many....I think....lol. I used to have more One Piece Knives than folders, now its the opposite as I can carry the folders nearly everyday, while it takes going out and about to carry the OPK.

Sent a couple due to very inane issues, mostly purely cosmetic. They always took good care of me where most other companies would have been annoyed by the OCD requests.

My small bocote inlay has/had golf thumbstuds but look completely silver now.

normal? Or worth sending for spa treatment?

Also does it void warranty if I widened bevel?
