Warranty. Ever used it? What about...

I don't think you have any reason to worry. One thing though - if I had it to do again, I would not have my scales re-finished as part of the spa treatment. YMMV. In any case, what we have is what appears to be one less than great experience posted in this thread. There have been zillions of threads here about great experiences, and probably many zillions more great experiences that never got posted because, after all, this being the internet, who posts to say nice things or comment when nothing bad happens? :(

can you explain why you would not re-finish the handle's..just wondering....

Sure - the original finish was a much finer-grained (if that makes sense) blasted finish. When it came back, it'd been blasted with something a little more coarse, maybe because that's how they "erase" wear on the scales? I might not have noticed it, but the CRK logo on the scales was a little washed out, didn't have the crisp edges it originally had. Plus, all of the wear marks on the scales were good, honest use :) and I sort of missed having them there. Sure, it looked as good as new...but it wasn't new, it was mine and it was old...a little hard to explain. :)

i believe i know what you are talking about.. but i think i'll like the handles a little more "rough". then again, it's going to the safe away.. many thanks.

You actually don't have a choice any more. As I understand it any plain Sebenza sent in to CRK for any reason will be reblasted as standard.

The blasting medium they use will of course change over time for one reason or another. It's hard to match a surface finish at the best of times but an old worn in knife is just impossible to match a finish for, if you can even remember what it looked like originally. :p. I know many people complain about the washed out look of a reblasted scale but TBH I don't see much difference in the knives I have had redone. I do agree it would be nice to just have the scars left as they were though. :)

Great stuff guys. This is beginning to look like the start of a database of sorts.

I have a question. Have any of you had a reblast applied to a 25 that has the pressed in stop pin? I'm wondering because there was speculation that the change to a threaded stop pin had to do with CRKs ability to refinish the scales.

The last thing I'd want is for my pin to be changed if I sent it in for a spa treatment.

Well guys I just sent In a brand new old stock 21 that had a two scratches on the blade and I was trying to take apart the knife as I always do to make sure properly lubercated. The pin was stuck in the pivot. I put in my leter for them to change the thumblug to a silver one being that they will have to retumble the blade. What do you guys think and this was not caused by over tightening the pivot. I hope Crk will take care of me because I have been a loyal customer.

Fade2- I'm not understanding what you meant by "pin stuck in pivot"?

I obviously haven't had first hand experience with CRK CS, but I would guess that you'll be taken care of.

As far as the thumbstud goes, isn't that an added cost option? I understand your point that they'll need to replace it anyway due to the blade refinishing, but I would still expect to pay for the change. If they DO ask for a payment for the change, I'd request that they just replace it with whatever is free, then polish the color off the stud myself to achieve the same results. I'm very use to modding my own knives so it wouldn't be a stretch, but even if you aren't, it looks like a simple job.

I appreciate your willingness to share what your experience will end up being. I'm all for experience disclosure, good and bad. :)

I'll update next week regarding the quality of work once the item is received.

As promised, I'll offer a final update on my experience with CRK warranty service.

Today my large CF 21 W/ basketweave damascus arrived back from CRK. Out out the box, all issues have been resolved perfectly. Blade centering, lockup, action, etc... is all as good as humanly possible. I made a comment earlier that some of the etched pattern was removed from the blade where it contacted the scale (there was also a rub mark inside the scale). They either re-etched or replaced the blade, and most likely replaced the CF scale; I don't have good enough photo's to tell if the pattern is different or not. It is, however, exactly as it should be.

Also, I was told they would wash out the shipping reimbursement in exchange for double lugs. They actually ended up charging me $10 and sending a hat and a tube of grease. That's fine, I really appreciate the hat - BUT, that's still different than what they said.... Good thing I like hats!!

In all, my warranty experience ended up positive. I am still mildly irritated about saying one thing but doing another, although that probably will not have any affect on future purchase decisions. The quality of the product I ended up with is better than I could have hoped, so I'm an overall happy camper.

Thanks to all!!

Sam

Sam, excellent look at your experience. Thanks for that.

My expectations and areas of concern are different than yours to some degree. I would have been more than displeased by the fact that it came to me with problems as you describe, like you, but wouldn't have been fazed by some of the other stuff. It's also possible that something you shrugged off could have been a problem for me or someone else.

Funny how an experience can be completely different depending on the customers view. In any case, I'm really glad that you have your knife and that it's perfect (now).

As I said before, I hadn't had experience with their CS. I have, however, been talking to Angela about another issue and she has, so far, gone above and beyond my expectations. I don't see any reason for that to change either, but whatever happens, I'll let you guys know how everything ends.
