Warranty For Discontinued Knives?

Let's say I have a Yojimbo, Dodo, Meerkat, or whatever and I'd like some repair work done on it. The pocket clip is gone, the lock-up has loosened, or whatever you can think of. What's Spyderco's protocol on reparing these?

I'll be able to get a replacement clip for my Yojimbo, or lock work done on my Dodo? Or will I just get the knife back with the recommendation to retire it?

My understand is this.

If the issue is caused by a manufacturing defect, and therefore covered under warranty, Spyderco will:

  • Repair it if parts are available
  • Replace it if unrepairable but, although discontinued, they still have it in stock
  • Allow you a credit at SFO equal to the original MSRP of the knife if neither of the above is true.
If the issue is not a warranty issue, Spyderco will fix it is something that can be fixed and parts are available and charge you for the repair. Since defects in workmanship would be immediately noticed, the only issue likely to be so covered on a discontinued model would be a defect in materials.

If the knife has reached the end of its useful life, parts are simply no longer available, or the problem is one which could not be repaired even on a brand new knife, then you be informed that your only option is to retire the knife.
