I bought a spyderco salt 1 a few months ago to use as my river knife guiding this rear. During the season I had to get back in my boat after falling out and when i pulled my self in i saw my knife on the raft floor. I picked it up and was relived i still had it and it wasnt in the water. While pulling myself in I bent the clip back about 40 degrees and now it wont fit back on my PFD.

Is this something i could send to spyderco to fix? I dont think it is neglect on my end, but i don't think it was a manufactors defect either. I just don't think the clip is built for heavy use on the water.

Get a Torx screw driver from Home Depot or some other hardware store, undo the clip, and then bend it back until it fits properly on your Salt.

The same thing happened to the clip on my Delica 4 when it snagged on the seatbelt as I was getting out of my car.

You should definitely be able to take care of it at home, no need to send it in to Spyderco.

thanks, i didnt have the right wrench so i was worried about snapping the clip. i'll check out home depot .

Have you though about putting a lanyard on it? You could tie it on your wrist so you wouldn't have to worry about losing it.

Torx screws are not apllied to Salt 1. It has the older d3 and e4 type clip. Not the same as a D4.

Unscrew with a normal flat head. You will see you have to hold both screws to unscrew it and then just bend it back. Happened to me to, but no worrys.

+1 for what marthinus said. Two coins work, American nickels fit both side of the barrel nut quite well. Unless your salt is one of the very first made, the clip is Titanium.

If the clip ever breaks, just call or email Spyderco, they will take care of ya. ;)

thanks again guys. I took the clip off last night but was unable to bend it, so for know it's going clipless.

General rule is that if you put enough pressure on a clip to bend it, it's abuse, and not a warranty issue. If you're in the USA, call the Spyderco Factory Outlet (800) 828-1925 and order a new one, believe they cost around five or six dollars.
