Warranty question

I have a Centofante 3 with VG-10 blade, and the blade shows several stains and discoloration from just normal use. Is this normal for Spyderco's VG-10? The FRN scales show a lot of wear on the clip side. Is the discoloration and wear on the scales grounds for replacement under warranty? I don't really want to send it in unless I'm fairly sure these issues will be dealt with, unless I am out of line to expect this. This is my only Spyderco and my only VG-10 blade. Thanks for the input.

I have a VG-10 Spot that stained when I carried it while running and failed to wipe the sweat off right away. I have several other Spydercos with VG-10 blades that I have had no trouble with at all. I like VG-10, it holds an edge, and is easier to resharpen than some of the other steels.

OK, thanks for the input. I have not dealt with Spyderco much, but it still cuts great despite stains and the handle!

I don't understand what you mean by wear on the clip side of the handle. Do you mean it is scratched, or what? How long have you had the knife?

Regarding the staining on the blade, there has been some discussion recently on that very topic. The stains may disappear over time.

I agree, though, wear on the scales and minor stains on the blade don't sound like warranty issues.

Yeah, there are scratches and rough spots in the FRN. I was given the knife in this condition by a friend, and just wondered if it was worth "sprucing it up," but it cuts fine, it is just ugly! :D

Spyderco warrants their knives to be free of defects in material or workmanship - not the effects of use.

Stains and scratches are usually the effects of use, not defects in materials or workmanship.

You could try some metal polish on the stains, but, there is nothing (that I know of) you can do for scratches in FRN other than replacing the scales. You'll just have to accept the fact that it has been a "user" and is going to bear the marks of that use.

Get a new one Bro and take care of it. Then any normal wear and tear is done by you and that is called Character!
