Anybody out there ever use one of those warthog knife sharpening machines? Looks like they would work, but I would rather hear from someone who has used one.

I picked one up at a "last hour of the knife show" discount a couple of years ago because it's a nifty gadget. While it's easy to use if you never change the setup, it's pretty limited that way:

  1. The maker in South Africa sells several different grits of diamond rods but the ones that come with it are 325 and there's no easy way to get others where I am.
  2. The rods can be adjusted to three different sharpening angles depending on the existing bevel of the blade you are sharpening BUT this is done with little short metal screws in the plastic frame. Don't expect to do this too often.

These days I only use it for a few kitchen knives that I don't care to bother to maintain a really good edge on (such as a set of non-serrated Wusthof steak knives).
