Was that a HI knife on Heroes S4E14?

They didn't seem to understand it very well (they had a bunch of B.S. about being usable for trip attacks, due to the "hooked" blade), but there it was.

Ah well... a lot of stereotypical RPG'ers are probably strict "katana-plonkers" anyway. :D

Cantina, maybe. Not enough is going on over there, anyway.

I never got to play as much as I'd like: most of my gaming experience comes from a VERY weird game of "Werewolf" I was involved in, during college. I never even got a chance to try my hand at 3rd Ed., despite liking what I saw.

I still have my dice, too.:)

These days I wouldn't be able to do the whole "imagine what's happening" thing anymore. For D&D type play, I tend to play certain hack&slash video games, especially the Champions of Norrath and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance titles for PS2. Man, if they created a software title that made it easy to cobble together such games oneself, and customize levels, worlds, items, characters, et cetera... that'd be fun!

Excellent idea. I don't know near enough about computers to pull such a thing off, but I imagine someone, somewhere has done it, even if only for their own personal use.

I'm a D&D nerd as well. The game you're looking for is "Neverwinter Nights" or "Neverwinter Nights 2"... very customizable, lots of free user-made content such as equipment and adventures available, and it supports online play (you can even have 1 person running it as the dungeon master). I used to play it quite a bit.

These days, I'm playing Dungeons & Dragons Online @ ddo.com (which now has a free-to-play option). They do have kukris, but they're pretty gimpy in the game. Khopesh is king.

See where you fall.

That's a great diagram Khuku'nut. In the 80's I was working a SciFi/comic shop and was exposed to a wide variety of folk that I know fit into that diagram somewhere.

Thanks for reminding me and for the smile it brought.

Hmm, I actually considered getting Neverwinter Nights for my Mac a couple years ago. Didn't know about the customizable aspect of it.

While I haven't played in YEARS, the distance from, yet past knowledge of the game make for fun geeky humour... like incorporating D&D jargon into speculations about the love lives of folk far nerdier than even myself...

"Hey baby, I'm a level 36 Elvish Druid-Mage, equipped with a staff of Pleasureful Thrusting +5... my familiar is a gargantuan purple wyrm... care to meet him? Spare me a moment to loosen my pantaloons..."

Saving throw versus rejection... -4 penalty due to... well everything... failed!

I should use this as a sig line.

Just this part.

I wish there was a movie showing the proper use of a falcatta or kopis. Rob roy did a decent job of showing how to use a rapier. And plenty of samurai flicks on how to use a katana such as the lone wolf and cub series or anything starring toshiro mifune.

The latter example including the excellent Daibosatsu Toge!

Tatsuya Nakadai was great in that!

Some may argue that the chambara genre shows a relatively contrived and stiff style of sword combat, and that some of the more panicked-looking exchanges in films like Seven Samurai are what the bulk of real katana melee would have looked like. Beats me! I like 'em all!
