Well thats what my buddy called it anyway..
I bought a very nice lightly used Emerson blackbird(at a very good price). After I got it in, I used it a while and come to like the knife overall. The handle, ergo's and I know I like 154cm. I just couldent warm up to that chisel grind. I just didnt like it for what "I" needed it for..I liked the knife and didnt want to sell/trade it off so I did the unthinkable..
I took the knife apart, took it to the shop and reprofiled the edge. Turned it into basically a drop point with a "V" grind :p Im a maker too so it wasnt much of a chore..My buddy said I ruined the collector/trade value. I said I dont care cause thats not what I bought it for..This aint something Ive ever done but Im pleased with the result.

The chisel grinds Emerson puts on their knives is blasphemy to me. Sounds like you did the right thing and made a decent knife out of it.

Good for you! I think it's awesome to mod a knife that's unsuitable for your uses to one that's useful to you.

I agree with what singularity35 wrote. It is a tool, and it is no good unless it meets your needs. The wielder is greater than the tool and the tool must serve its owner.

Ill take some pics tomorrow when I can get the knife in the light. Ill post them then.

agree with cziv. you did the right thing. Emerson's chisel grind is useless for me, because it's on the wrong side.

You picked up the wrong tool and then modified it. Its like taking a $300 power drill and using it as a hammer to hit nails into floor boards with. The chisel grind is for field service, the knife deserved to go to a more appreciative soul. Those flat head pivot screws should have given the game away really.

I lost my CQC-7 Mini a few years ago, I still kick myself for it.

I have a love of sharp pointy things and things that go bang bang but I am a firm believer that if you can't use it cause it is rare or expensive or it's just plain ol not working for you then get rid of it or change it. My .02$

Most field knives dont have a chisel grind so.....dont see your point there. I find the grind cumbersome, not useless but certainly not my favorite flavor of ice cream. You bought a knive that you loved the feel of and made it meet your needs. I dont see it any different than someone putting a convex grind on a V grind knife. Good on you for modding it to your needs.

Is it a chisel grind or a chisel edge? Because that sounds like an awful lot of metal removal.

barrabas74, Emersons Chisel Grind lot are a field knife every step in my book, its a half the time functional system which can be used in extreme primitive settings. Take your concrete slab, thats your stone...

It is a Shiv, it is a pry bar, it takes only a coin to tighten the pivot, its an UGLY knife that is used for ugly business. Its a tad sad that such a design has been distorted but as DennisStrickland rightfully states it is someones property fair and square. I'd still treat my Emerson knives as they were designed to be.

Im actually feeling a tad nostalgic over the flat head screwdriver pivot, those drivers cause some nasty lacerations skidding out of the screw head. Torque head bolts are for wusses :P

It's your tool to do with what you wish. You could of made some extra cash if another model would have been sufficient though. I want to learn how to reshape using a grinder.

I don't slice sushi with my folders so why in the world does anyone chisel grind a folder!? :) Well done on the mod!

A chisel edge is definitely something that takes getting used to. I have found that once you develop 'muscle memory' through use, tracking is no longer a problem. In addition, due to the narrow edge angle, the chisel edge will get sharp beyond belief.

Well here what I did..Also know I am not knocking Emersons chisel grind. Im sure it works well for what its intended for. Im sure he didnt design this knife for farm work :D I just liked the knife overall to well to get rid of it. Now its basically a drop point with a slight convex edge. Foolishly sharp too..Ill add there seems to be a very good heat treat on this 154 cm.
