Was your Strider SnG worth it?

I'm considering buying one but it would be (by far) my most expensive knife purchase to date. I've watched YouTube videos, stared at countless pics and read through numerous threads. I'm still hesitant though as I would need to sell off some knives to be able to afford the purchase. I'm just looking for some more thoughts, opinions & insight from either current or previous owners. Perhaps some more reaffirming is all I need to pull the trigger. Thanks in advance to anyone who chimes in w/ useful info.

For someone just getting into "mid-priced" knives I would go with Chris Reeve Sebenza. Not because it is better but I believe you would have a greater chance of getting a "perfect" knife.

I recently sold a PT CC because it was too small but based on the quality of the knife I would buy an SNG in a heartbeat if I could keep from getting side tracked and spending my knife funds elsewhere first. I personally like an SNG much more than a Sebenza. In short, I believe it is worth the money. But if you don't want to sell off part of your collection to fund one then don't. There's no reason you can't save the money over time, I doubt Strider is going anywhere any time soon.

If your going for a tactical knife I put up Microtechs with Striders, but they are different styles, I still am able to find some Socom elites or deltas. The seven a would be my next choice. So to answer you question, if you ware justifying whether there are better blades for the price then I would go with a different knife, but cool factor and pride of ownership which comes into play so much in the knife and gun community then I would say yes. I like the knife as a design and the fact that it is cool that you own one and it is functional, but comparing its utility to a Microtech or sebenza I would say it is on par. The Strider does seem a little more over built than a sebenza.

Took me a loooooong time to pull the trigger on my first Strider. Aside from all the personal stuff that folks will inevitably re-hash beyond death, they are very good knives. I am on my second SnG and the CC in my pocket right now is (Overall) the best modern folder I have owned. Call me lucky or whatever, but the knife is perfect in that the blade is perfectly centered, lockup perfect, smooth as glass, great detent, beautiful full flat grind CPM154 steel, dual choils that work great, tough as heck while still being lighter than it should be. I never hesitate to use it as hard as reasonable for a folder.

These are only my opinions & experience.

I have a CC and DGG SnG that I like. I would highly highly recommend buying from a dealer. Lotta fakes and many used ones are abused to hell and back. The SnG is a perfect edc size.

Just my personal opinion, outside of the whole integrity issue, I would have to say no. While the knife was cool and well made, I just didnt find it to be $300 worth of cool. The knife was awkward in my pocket due to the thumb stud/stop pin. What I mean is that because of the way the stud stuck out, it would come open as I drew it out of the my pocket, especially if I was sitting. Of course in the end, it is your money and if you think that the SNG is worth the money, then it is to you.

I would like to echo the warnings from the others about the counterfeits on the market. If/when you decide to get one, stick to trusted dealers or members to purchase one. I know recently we had a member attempting to trade off a knockoff as the real deal.

I've had my Strider SNG-GG CPM154 for perhaps a couple of years now. It's a very solid folder with a beefy blade but the most remarkable thing is how light it is (4 ounces).

Consider this, if you buy one and discover it's not for you, you'll be able to flip it for nearly what you paid for it, or trade it for something else of equal value. They hold their value quiete well.

Not for me... I tried two different SnG's and neither struck my fancy. IMHO, they should be priced at least $100 less than they are. Mine were well made and didn't have any fit & finish issues, although a puzzling design feature with the blade in the closed position protruding into the lanyard hole.

Different strokes for different folks...

I just got an SnG about...an hour ago! I hemmed and hawed for weeks and always thought I would go the Chris Reeves 'zan. A couple things finally did it for me- I realized I'm more of a full flat grind guy and I got to hold an Sng my cousin has. That crazy shaped handle is just sweet! Retiredguns posts helped push me too- I was getting ready to PM and thank him for all the good comments he's made describing the Striders. I sold a few sweet knives to fund this and so far so good!

Here are some of my recent buys (been on a folder tear) and from pure feel- the Strider beats them all. I can't wait to use it and see what I think....

I will add if I end up liking my Rat 1 more- I will lose my mind! ;) Got that like a month ago and dang...that is a great folder!!

very funny question. not-nearly-as-funny answer.

No. no it was not worth it. i should have gotten a different knife. end of story.

Not in my opinion, no. My SnG CC was a good knife for sure. Was it worth what they cost? Not a chance.
I cannot see how someone would say that they are as tough as a Sebenza. I'd put my 25 up against any SnG, any day of the week. Yes they are very different, just because the Strider *looks* tougher doesn't make it so. And just because CRK doesn't position the Sebenza as a super tough knife, also, doesn't make it weak or flimsy. I'd dare anyone to do a contest. Anyway, you aren't asking for info on Sebenza.

My SnG was by far the most expensive knife in my little collection at the time that I owned it. I felt that it made a poor choice against other knives that I owned that cost far less. You pointed out that it will be your sole high end knife, if you're anything like me you'll be let down by that fact. I'd consider one if I had a few others to go with it.

What I liked-

Looked very cool. That cannot be denied.

Size. The CC made for a very pocketable edc.

Um... It was a Strider, and that alone seemed cool.

What I didn't like-

Hollow click when opening.

Obtuse (obese) geometry. Maybe a different grind would have given me something better to work with, but a 3/4 grind is icky if you like slicy blades.

Proprietary hardware. I like to mess with my knives. And not just to fix an off-center blade or lock rock.

Not smooth at all. I got rid of a Sebenza for this?!

Overall it's just like anything else. You may love it, or you may not. I applaud your effort to try and figure it out before you lay down your money. I wish that I could have held one (I'm sure you do too) before I got it. I wouldn't even have had to cut anything to know that it wasn't for me. I often wonder how something like that gets enough traction to sell at its price point, but others say that about CRK.

If there's ANY way for you to try one before you buy, do it. I got rid of only one knife to get an SnG. If I had to sell a few, and especially if I liked those at all, I think I'd have resented the Strider.

Good luck and I truly hope that you end up happy, whatever decision you make. :)

I sold my SnG's because of the wear on the lockbar issue and the supposed solution of sending it in to Strider when that happens to get bigger stop pins put in. Not interested in that

Got a Sebenza 25 a while ago and love it. Plenty tough for me, carries and feels awesome and the ceramic ball lockup idea is great. Will probably outlast me

Strider and CRK are both great companies. The Sng is a fine knife; is very "tactical" in appearance and capability. The Sebenza is much more domestic and performs without notoriety. Both companies have GREAT customer service.
If you want "tactical", then go with Strider...or the CRK Umnumzaan. If you're a quiet, mild-mannered sort of guy, then you'd probably be happier with a Sebenza.
I have had many Striders and many CRK's. I carry an Umnumzaan, and occasionally a Sebenza.

Yes, get you one!

The SnG has such a unique design and execution. If thats what you're interested in, literally nothing else will do. You'll buy a Hinderer or a CRK and you'll keep coming back to the Striders. My SnG is indispensable. :)

P.S. Get the full flat grind; much much better than the 3/4 grind

Had one and sold it. Mine was built very well but for a folder I want one that will slice well. Military and Sebenza both win in in that match. For a tough use knife I would always choose a fixed blade and the market is wide open. Strider has its market and I would choose it for prying up man hole covers but for a pocket knife there are better choices.
