washers in slipjoints?

I am a new fan to slippies. I collect mainly sebenzas and now, I have acquired a taste for slippies. Do custom slipjoint makers use washers in their knives? Or are most of the slippies made without washers? Just curious.

Some custom makers do, and the Bark River one will, but most don't. They work just fine without.
