Iv'e just ordered a wool shirt and it is supposed to be dry cleaned, I just wondered if any of you had wool clothing that should be dry cleaned but had washed it successfully yourself ! How did you do it, any tips ?

I just handwash with a drop or two of Wooolite , rinse well then roll up the sweater in a towel to absorb the water, then drape over a drying rack.

Being historical reenactors, and avid outdoors people, we have a ton of wool clothing, blankets, etc., that need attention...especially after a dusty, smoke filled rendezvous. We wash all of our Hudson Bay, Witney Point, handmade Wilde blankets, shirts, capotes, leggings, etc., in the bathtub in lukewarm water with @Woolite. We have tried other products (except Nikwax) and the Woolite seems to do the best job. Gentle agitation in the tub, pat dry with towels, and lastly over a drying rack (as Bushman5 suggests), works great. Expect some shrinkage.

I'm curious about the Nikwax.

All of the Nikwax products work well on their respective garments. Woolite will also get the job done, and is more readily available. If you have an outdoor specialty retailer near you, they will probably have a few of the Nikwax products, but probably not the wool one. The wool one is kind of tough to find in brick and mortar stores, so you might have to order it online if that is the way you decide to go.

Ahh, don't worry. Just wash/dry it and give it to Mazie. Ought to fit just right outa the dryer.
