You guys may already be aware of this scam, but just in case you haven't experienced it:
I was drooling over this beautiful Tom Mayo knife put up for sale by
aleforme
, and after 24 hours my willpower broke down and I had to buy it. I commented with an "I'll take it" early a.m. Pacific time. Within 45 minutes I received an email from someone purportedly named "aleforme" providing PayPal details for the knife. The email address seemed a bit suspicious, but hey, he was offering PayPal goods and services as one of the payment methods, so I wasn't sure. Luckily caution kicked in and I asked him to confirm his identity on Blade Forums or Instagram. Notwithstanding the fact that I was half-awake, knife-hungry and susceptible to scam, his response to my request erased any doubt in my mind that he was a scammer (bees? really?):
Luckily, the real aleforme responded in short order and confirmed I was dealing with a total scammer. We finished the deal smoothly.
Moral of the story: it's best to confirm that the person emailing you is the one selling you the knife! Scammers are looking for sales posts and looking to intercept buyers via email before the sellers can get to them.
