Got my Verizon bill this morning, and found $20.00 worth of charges for a MyTelebill Voicemail service, that we did not authorize, did a search and found it's a scam that bills your phone copmany and they pass it on to you, Verizon has just basically told me "it's not our problem, deal with it yourself". Even though THEY allowed someone to bill our account without proper permission.

I would pay the bill less the scam charges, immediately cancel service and get a new provider, and tell Verizon "It's not my problem, deal with it."

I would refuse to pay it.

The more people give in to thieves of this nature , the bolder they become.

Since my work uses Verizon I will pass this info along.

Thanks for the headsup.

Oh I will not be paying it, but I am surprised at Verizon just allowing charges with no authorization on my bill, guess I shouldn't be.

Just another reason that I switched to VOIP service thorugh Optimum Online.

I just got off the phone FINALLY with MyTelebill, they blatantly admit that we were signed up for this when we thought we were requesting online coupons for a store. (I am gonna have to have another TALK with family members about filling out online forms apparently)!!!!!

What a scam!

They claim they are removing it and stopping it, but I think I am gonna file a report with my State's Attorney General anyway, which may not do much, but maybe if they get enough complaints?????

Is it a matter of there being fine print about this voicemail service that says "if you request this coupon you will also be signed up for this voicemail service" and it wasn't noticed by the person online? Or is just something they tack on without any notice or permission at all? If it's the latter I would definitely file a complaint with the BBB. Even if BBB says no harm because they resolved it for you by reversing the charge, I would certainly want it on record if they made a charge that was never disclosed or authorized at all. If the AG's office will take a complaint on it too, go for it.

On the matter of Verizon, if they don't know it's an unauthorized charge when the item is submitted for billing on the account, I don't know that there's anything they can do stop it at that point in time. After you've notified them, it would be helpful if they said more than "It's your problem" (because you can be sure you're not the first person to have this happen with that company) but my sense is that Verizon would not feel compelled to act unless it was proven the 3rd party was doing nothing to fix the problem and it was turned over to whatever unit Verizon has dealing with fraud and/or disputed transactions. It's the same reason some credit card issuers tell folks to call merchants and ask for an upfront credit on a fraud transaction - because they don't want to take the time and incur the cost of processing a chargeback if they don't have to.

One thing that came from this, is that I have now formally told Verizon to block "3rd party billing" to my Verizon account.

Not sure if that will help, but they claim it will........

i presume this is a land line and not a cell phone, ya have a contract with them and IIRC ya cant just "cancel".

i hate scams like this myself, ya have to really watch your bills close these days or ya can get scammed.

SIFU1A is unfortunately for me right, it's a landline and I just signed up for 1 year of DSL 3 months ago, I cancel know and I pay a hefty fee.
