Watched Forum not sending email updates when new thread is started

When I setup a forum to watch, let's say general knife discussion, and a new thread is started, I'm not receiving an email update. I get an alert in my inbox here on the forum, but no email. In my watched forums preferences I have the forum setup for alerts and emails.
When watching a thread I do receive email updates when someone replies. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
I also don't see where I can change watching a forum email update settings (as it happens, or receive daily digest of changes.) Maybe that's the issue, my watched forums emails aren't setup to notify me instantly. Am I trying to access functionality that doesn't exist? :)
 
The only setting I can see to get e-mails sent to you when a new thread is added to a watched forum is probably an option you've already found, the pull-down menu on the 'watched forums' page.

Otherwise, I don't think there are any other preferences that can change the rapidity of the e-mails.
