ok i was looking for a new watch a durable watch and it doesnt need to have too many functions, the one i really like is the mtm predator with is great but costs $450 witch is a hair out of my price range so i was wondering if anyone knew of a similar style of watch that is cheaper or any other suggestions of tactical or military watches
thanks

I've never had expensive watches, so I may not know what I'm missing. But, I've got a Timex Ironman that is analog (dial face) that I bought nearly 10 years ago that has been to hell and back, literally. I got it for $30 from Campmor on closeout and just changed the battery for the first time last week. I've tried to kill the darn thing on pupose so I can get a new one, but like their motto says, well you know... Not that Timex is any better than anything else, but I think as far as durability, there are probably some damn tough, expensive watches out there, but you never know what luck of the draw you might get on a basic watch. I think a lot depends on what features you want too and what you expect out of it. I've heard Casio G-Shocks take a real beating too.

Anyway, I just figure that's more I can spend on knives or camping and archery gear.

i use a 10 dollar digi watch from wallyworld that has had so much abuse t the face i have ad to buff it out and it still didnt get rid of all the scratches

ive had it for almost 6 years and have yet to replace the battery

I've had a Swiss Army brand watch for about 15 years. It lasted through construction projects, beach trips, everything. Only time adjustments I made were time changes on trips and daylight savings changes. I stopped wearing it on a daily basis only because I found I prefer a pocket watch. But the wrist watch still works and I still use it when a pocket watch is in the way (like construction or heavy gardening).

Bought it on sale at Big 5 for about $50. I notice that Big 5 still puts Swiss Army watches on sale every once in a while. You might try one.

I have a pair of Citizen Eco-drive watches that are in the divers' watch style. Both were gifts. I use them as dressy watches, but they are pretty rugged and don't require battery replacement - just put them in the light now and then.

For hard use, I have a couple of Timex Expeditions - one analog and one digital. They are nearly indestructible, but cheap enough not to matter much if something happened to them.

I would love to have a good, old-fashioned mechanical self-winding watch. I do have one, but it's not especially good or rugged.

A Seiko SKX007 (or one of the other diver models) would fit your requirements nicely. They can be found for under $150. They're very reliable and tough. It's probably the best buy in the watch world.

My favorite for backpacking is my Nike Oregon series with compass, thermometer, altimeter and barometer, they can be had for about $150. My go to, wear all the time and beat the crap out of has always been a G Shock. My latest has been a green Mudman and I love this thing. They are about $60.

I just picked up a Marathon SAR, They can be pricey but you can find deals on the bay. heavy and tough, no frills and feels bomb proof. I've got mine laced with a Zulu strap

I've got a Seiko digital watch which has held up to everything I've thrown at it for the last ten years or so, including plenty of salt water use whilst sailing. I know plenty of guys who have Casio G-Shocks and they seem to stand up the same.

For day to day wear I've got a Swiss-made metal cased Traser H3 which I love the look of and has had no problems, though it hasn't been exposed to anything significant yet.

My experience with Citizen watches has been negative - my brother had one worth about $US600 and it literally fell apart within a few months of him getting it. It was a real POS. That's not to say all Citizen wathces are necessarily like that, but I sure as heck wont be getting one any time soon.

Citizen Eco-Drive Titanium and a 5.11 Tactical Gear. Eco-Drive speaks for it's self, but the 5.11 is rugged and made for abuse.

I run a traser trooper.. very tough and simple, has tritium in it as well so good in the dark:

cost me around 250 IIRC off ebay:

I find it amusing that we will tell someone on these boards without hesitation if we think they "cheap out" on a knife on any given day, but then in the next breath ask how inexpensively they can get away with another product, and be given suitable answers from people who think X amount of dollars is plenty for that particular item. Understand I am 100% NOT trying to single out any single person. I am just making the observation that we all have our subjective limits when it comes to something we don't particularly obsess over.
I'm sure there are enough people who have one or more $5,000 and up watches that would shudder at paying $40 for a Spyderco Native. Or more than $30 for a pair of jeans or shoes, or more than $2 for a pen, etc. etc. etc.
That's what makes the world a great place to be-diversity.

Had I not seen your price limitation- I would have recommended basic Omega, Rolex, or Bell and Ross. But you do have a limit, so Seiko or Citizen are durable watches, as are Timexes. There are watches in every price range that represent good value. Perhaps a watch forum might also be a good place to do some research. Good luck with your hunt.

Hmmm, interesting take sixfoot7. Personally, I could go for days without a watch, if I didn't need to appease other people with appointments. I guess it boils down to this, in a survivalist situation, lets say you are lost in the woods; does it really matter whether it is 6:00 or 6:45 am? I have never bought into the sychronized watches with your team members stuff. Yeah, if you're in Iraq with your platoon, ok. Otherwise, spending your money on a quality knife makes more sense than an expensive watch to me.

Seiko watches have worked well for me in the past. I had an Orange monster that I enjoyed. The black monster is a little less bold in color, but still a nice watch.

You might try Luminox. They make a model that's like a stainless SandY 6500 and it's pretty dang tough. I've had one of those for years now. I think their model # is 3102. Price is around $260 or so.

yeah well i already got the zt 0100 and the zt 0200 so my "quality" knife collection seems pretty nice so i have some money left over and decided to get a good quality watch just wondering peoples opions on watches not on buying another knife

I like the Luminox "Navy SEALS" watch (tough as hell) and even more so, the Seiko Black MOnster. I LOVE this watch. I think I paid $100 for mine on Ebay. Casio's Pathfinder series looks sweet, too, but they are function-loaded.
