Water in the keyboard!!

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to say I'm sorry for not posting for so long, but I dumped 20oz of water into my keyboard. Needless to say, this wasn't good for it. It took me a week and a half to get this one(after they sent me the wrong one >: ! Anyway, there were so many posts that I wanted to respond to but could not, and I just felt bad. I was able to type 6 or 7 characters on the keyboard, which is why my one post previous just said" 18" AK!!!!!". Well, thats my excuse

BTW, I have a new USB keyboard for Gateway computers(the wrong one for my comp. that they sent me)--they didn't want it back! If anyone wants it I'll send to you if you pay shipping(which shouldn't be much).

I was up in ME this past weekend, up 'round Camden, and Richmond. There sure are a lot of trees that look like they need the attention of a good khuk

Yeah the ice storm of a few years back took quite a toll on the trees. Bad luck for the trees and good luck for me! I've "had to" cut down 5 or 6 quaking aspens that were badly ice damaged (tops were broken on some, and others were bent within feet of the ground). Used the logs to reinforce my shooting backstop--Love it when stuff works out like that

If you spill Heineken (or coffee, or anything water-soluble) into your keyboard all you need to do is give your keyboard a shower. Take it into the shower with you and rinse it out thoroughly and if your water is hard it's probably a good idea to give it a final rinse with distilled water -- but unless your tap water is unusually hard don't bother. Wait until it's thoroughly dry before you plug it back in, of course. That can take hours.

A friend of mine with small children had to give her keyboard a shower four or five times and suffered severe withdrawal symptoms while it was drying, so she went to a computer store to see if they had a spillproof keyboard. The guy tried to sell her a keyboard condom. (I am not making this up -- not any of it.) He said it would give protection without interfering with the feel of typing significantly, but she wasn't sure she believed him ... she was afraid it would be like taking a shower in a raincoat ... and he wanted her to put it on, too, and she didn't know how ... she ended up buying a keyboard with a hinged cover instead.

I wonder if Keyboard condoms could prevent the spread of HIKV to new forumites?

You don't get HIKV from touching the keyboard -- but if you put a condom over the monitor -- especially before looking at threads with pictures of khukuris -- that provides some protection from infection. That's why Bill always puts "pix" in the title of any thread with pictures in it. You can't say he didn't warn ya....

I'm afraid one condom over the monitor isn't enough for sure protection -- the pictures might penetrate a single condom well enough to infect you. I'm not sure how many layers of latex the pictures can penetrate. More research is needed....

Wow -- I won both chuckle competitions for the day! If I can keep it up my position as HI humorist is assured -- and I might even work up my nerve to ask for a 5% raise in salary! My research so far just might win tomorrow morning's chuckle competition....

I didn't have any condoms on hand big enough to fit over the whole (17") monitor, so I flattened out a nonlubricated Goldcoin so my eyes were protected by a double thickness of latex and tested it on the pictures of the old kothimoda John Powell posted today in http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum65/HTML/000461.html

The cho penetrated the double thickness of latex with barely diminished potency and I felt the symptoms of HIKV immediately.

It looks like a double thickness is probably insufficient. However, that khukuri is more potent than most. I should try testing it on a villager next ... of course I'll have to use another condom for the second test; it says on the package you shouldn't reuse them....
