Does anyone use water jetting to cut out knife blanks? If so can you recommend a place to have it done? Do any of you guys have a water jet that you would cut blanks for me for a $charge? I know that water jetting might not be the most economical but I'm tight on time and would rather spend what time I do have grinding instead of shaping. Thanks.

If I google searched every question I had then I wouldn't have signed up for blade forums. I like the interaction between other members. Thanks though.

+1 more for mark. he is an honest guy that will treat you right. its always a good idea to do some research before doing business with anybody.

When you factor in time, bandsaw blades, and abrasives, water jetting is THE most economical method.

Unless of course you value your time very little.

I will also say Mark, but if you go that way, you can spend shipping steel from supplier to you, then to Mark, then back to you in finished blanks.

You can ship steel directly to him and skip one of those postage costs.

I will also suggest trying the Yellow Pages under Waterjet cutting.
You can often find local businesses and skip some shipping.

Thanks for the referrals fellas!
I don't post much but we are kicking out lots of hardware from the new Flow waterjet.
Contrary to what some makers think we provide really tight tolerances and clean square edges using the Dynamic cutting head.

As far as shipping goes unless you have material on hand everyone just drop ships from their favorite steel supplier direct to us.
NJSB even ships to me at no charge on prepaid orders!!
With USPS Flat Rate Priority it cheap to send blanks to US addresses.
110 blanks went out yesterday in a $15 box so shipping is a non issue (except for the mailman's back).

Those who try to help themselves first often get helped the most (sometimes in very big ways) by the experienced members on this forum.

Anyway, I have not used Leading Edge Fabricating but the support they get on these forums, their super short turn around time, and their awesome utilization pictures would lead one to think they're top notch. However, I want to echo the Count's reply about the yellow pages. I found a fabrication shop in town that does waterjet cutting. They had no experience with cutting knife blanks but they were excited to work with me. Having a local connection can have a variety benefits; one of which, for me, was that the owner is a knife fanatic, we get to chit chat about knives, he's in a big hunting club (potential sales), and I've sold him a knife.
