Water purification?

gadgetgeek is correct. i have this potable aqua with pa+plus in my kit. the active ingredient on the first bottle is tetraglycine hydroperiodide (produces iodine) and on the second it's ascorbic acid.

wikipedia also states the same thing regarding iodine and ascorbic acid (iodine section about middle of the page): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_water_purification#Chemical_Disinfection_with_Halogens.
The problem with the tabs are the time it takes. A filter like the Sawyer Mini is just plain fast.

Expensive, but Backpacker picked the MSR Guardian as 2016 Editors Choice.
Self-cleaning, fast, cold proof to zero, no need to prefilter.
And expensive.

I would keep some tabs as a backup and carry the Sawyer Mini for the dominant water purification needs. I am still experimenting, but the Sawyer is small. You can attach it to most any bottle with the correct threads even cheapie water bottles. I also would carry some coffee filters as a pre-filter for murky water. But would prefer not to use them at all.

I looked in Walmart for the Sawyer Mini.... they don't carry it in my area.
