So I made this beauty for a friend of mine (she likes cats) and after I washed it I noticed that when I squeeze the handle, water pops out. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I'm trying to figure out why so I don't make this mistake again. Perhaps I overtightened the clamps? (I did tighten pretty hard, didn't want any gaps with visible epoxy because the steel was slightly bent)Or is it possible that heat from the grinder melted some epoxy? I tried my best to change the spots I ground off so that wouldn't happen. Or are my pins too far apart? Also what should I do, I really don't want to take the handle apart, it took me a long time to shape it. Will waiting till the water evaporates and filling in the spots work well enough?

I've never had that problem. What's the liner material. I make sure there is enough epoxy so that when I clamp it, epoxy squirts out all the way around. Let it dry completely and grind it off. The micarta shouldn't hold water, so it is either a gap or the liner material is absorbing it. You can heat the knife in the oven and the epoxy will release. Then epoxy it again if you want.

You answered your own question. When you over tightened to compensate for a warped handle as soon as you released the clamps you broke the epoxy bond.

Get it warm long enough to dry it out.

Then use some Insta Cure Cyanoacrylate glue. It will wick up in there and fill the spaces.

Then use some insta set to set the glue quick

Sand and polish

You already got your answer so I just wanted to comment on those scales. I love em! What a cool idea. The layers of the micarta really work with the silhouette. I've seen fish and various birds but that's the first cat I've seen. I can't decide if I'm going to show my future crazy-cat-lady daughter or not for fear that she is going to want something similar. I'm sorry that you are having that problem but at the same time kinda glad you did. If you make cool stuff like that often then please post more of it.

Will try, thanks.

Thanks I'm really happy with how it turned out. I will try to post more of my work. The handle is very comfortable, but I can make improvements. Specifically, I'm going to arch the frame of the cat so the ears point straight back, and use vulcanized red liners (these g10 ones don't pop out like I'd hoped). There are also two bottle cap openers, one on the end of the tail and one where the claw is on the back foot.
