Water, water...waiter, check please!

I drink 3-4 32oz. water bottles of water a day. I gave up soda and for the last 2 weeks it's been just water instead.

This thread got me to wondering, and I've looked some stuff up over the last 24 hours. Learned a lot, especially from a pharmacist here locally.

These situations may be extreme, but I remember both happening:

You can drink too much water. Apparently you can drink so much in a short amount of time, that you can't urinate fast enough to get your chemistry back in balance. (I didn't know that.)

All I know is that I am in training to hold my urine to regulate my hydration. I am starting a fad in So Cal. I call it "Totally Tortoise."

I pretty much drink at least a gallon a day, even when I'm not working out on the weekend and stuff. Ever get a headrush when you "stand up too fast"? Drink more water and they'll go away.

I'm missing my ascending colon & most of my transverse colon (thank you Mr. Cancer) and was told that since the colon is where a good bit of the body's water absorption takes place, that I'll need to drink more. I've noticed that if I'm not paying attention & drinking enough water (beer doesn't count, no matter how much I would like it to) I notice a very real change in my body. My fingertips even shrivel if I don't drink enough.

It varies a lot.

If I just sit in the computer lab all day, I might only have a few cups worth of water.

If I have to out and do something, especially in hot weather, it's a heck of a lot more.

One time I drank a liter in under a minute.

And it came back up in under a second. :barf:

True story. :D

I'm a bigggggg guy (6'7" and would rival the weight of pro-NFL players) and working in a hot machine shop I can down 3 - 4 liters in a 8 hour period, sometimes more. I reckon I'd sweat out a good lot of that though, as said too I conditioned myself to a point I dont urinate as many times a day as my co-workers seem to do. Come winter and I dont really feel thirsty, have to force myself to keep hydrated, you would think the brisk air would make me feel thirsty but it dont.

In under one minute I did a jug of beer but thats another story :D

Was it that wimpy Aussie yellow-beer-flavored-liquid? That would be like drinking water, I guess.

:p Just kidding. (Foster's has a special place in me li'l heart.) In my earlier days, when I was in the mood for beer, I could put a lot more beer away than water, for sure.

I doubt that someone sitting at home or in a quiet office will need this average amount of recommended water. Some people drink more caffeine, or eat foods with more sugar, and need more water. Some eat more soups and salads, and get their water from that.

I have a water bottle on my desk and am constantly drinking from it. I dislike coffee and soda simply is (a) unhealthy (especially when you sit in front of a computer. :p) and (b) expensive! $2 / soda adds up!

it was Guinness :p I was channeling the irish heritage in me but cannot be judged on what didn't make it down my throat lol. I dont like Australian beer, got more a taste for a little Guinness and then ALOT of whiskey and rum.
