Waterjet cutting for knife blanks

Bob,why do you say to avoid the serrations? It cuts them just perfect. Just curious.:)

Because how are you going to grind them?

The serration pattern is usually put in by the act of creating the serrations...

Now you must try and match what is there.

if I have blanks Water jetted and will have serrations... I will have them started that way, now you have a mark to start your filings, all with-in a few thousands of where you want them to be
,, I don't see why not do it, the cost would not be an issue. works for me :)
just my 2 cents

Well I can do the either way. I don't know what is best, so thats why I'm asking. I guess it is up to the individual that is finishing the knife. I do see both points.

KnifeWerks explained my point perfectly. Still doable, but seems like a waste of precision/programming time.

I have agree to disagree, because for me
I'll do the cad work myself
and then Dave just uses that,
on my part it takes less than 5 min's to add the notches and
Dave offers the set up free to those that don't do cad.. .
and I'm sure he is faster than I am with cad..

Thanks for all of the great input. I've had a lot of people contact me in this short period of time. I'll be turning out a lot of parts soon. So I hope to see some pics of these finished:D

Let me just say it was a pleasure dealing with David. I emailed him a few times and he got to work as soon as he heard from me via email and then I finally gave him a call and we figured on the exact look of a part for me which he cut out that very day and showed me the parts the very next day! Can't wait to get the parts for use with my blades!

oops....totally forgot to post pictures :D i'll take some tonight when I get home. Thanks David.

Here are some little itty bitty logo/menuki dealies David cut for me. They are cut from 1/16" thick Stainless steel. I've added a penny to show size.

There was no setup charge and each one was very very very reasonably priced.

Im very interested in getting something done by you. I live in Aus. .. would that be a problem?
I was thinking of just explaining to you what I want and show some pics of existing designs. Could you do a sketch and I tell you yes or no? Im a noob at knife making so cant draw for crap.

Aussy is not a problem. I have shipped parts all over the world. Pohan, you take better pics than me!;)

I will be sure and post pictures of the blades you are doing from the damascus I sent and of the finished knives. I can't wait. I have seen some other very intricate stuff cut with waterjet and I believe it or laser is very workable for our needs. Jim

This man knows what he is doing !!! Thanks David for the great service and very
reasonable price !!! Take a look folks .
