Here's a recent lot order of CPM3V and Sandvick fixed blade patterns. How much time would it take standing in front of a bandsaw profiling? Not to mention adding holes and stock removal in the handle area.

Nice work mate . To bad i live in Australia. Anyone with a waterjet In Australia would charge you a fortune. I love how you squeeze the most out of the sheet.

i dont think you could cut the same ammount of blanks out with a bandsaw or make it worth the time to even try and do it.

How much does the waterjet cutting cost? Just curious.

Quantity, thickness, size of raw material and blank profile geometry are the main variables that make up the price.

Thanks Mark. I was looking more for a ballpark range per knife for a typical order. But if it is too much like a quote and is a bad business practice to post something like that, I understand.

Patrice, since we are dealing with custom orders and all the variables involved I quote based on defined inputs. I'd be glad to give you a ballpark price just PM me some specifics via PM. Once we have the details worked out our current turnaround is 2-3 days.
I appreciate your interest.

Count me in as interested! The bandsaw is driving me crazy lately!

Nice looking sheets of steel, H2O! Those look like Koster patterns to me. The MUCK I ordered a while back might even be on one of those sheets:thumbup::D

Sorry I did not mean to move this in a direction not permitted. It was just curiosity as I probably will never use this with my small knife output.
But if I do, I know where I'll go.

If someone has a request for pricing or an order, the best way is to send a PM or email and keep the commercial aspect out of the threads.

When a commercial member is posting a thread, it is almost always going to be close to the edge as far as promotion of their product or services - but as long as pricing and ordering are kept out of it, the thread is fine.

Examples of Right and Wrong ;

R - "I sold my first knife yesterday. It was nice and I got $75 for it. Woo-Hoo."
W - "I sold my first knife yesterday.Woo-Hoo. If you want one like it ,they are $75."
R - " I cut these 500 knives out on my waterjet cutter for a big order. It took 50 hours."
W - "I cut these 500 knives out on my waterjet cutter. I charge $50 per hour. Send orders to Spam@ ahol.com ."

Thanks Stacy. I was really just looking for something like: Waterjet can cost anywhere between x$ and y$ per knife. Purely out of curiosity without any intent on using the service. Maybe I should have mentioned that too. I guess if the answer came from anyone but a commercial member and without a specific purveyor mentioned it would be ok. Sorry Mark for hijacking your the thread so much.

Any suggestions for a free(or inexpensive) drawing program that would allow makers to do all the design themselves and send you a usable file.

How accurately can you cut holes. Say i was using a .250 pivot for a folder, and wanted blades waterjet, can you get pretty close to that?

holes are done undersize so you will need to ream holes to final size. the waterjet cuts at a 1-1 1/2 degree taper.

Mike,
I received your PM and will reply shortly.
^^^ what Richard said is correct.
We can hold +/-.005 all day long on superalloy sheet stock blanks we make for an Aerospace customer.
Cut under size, drill & ream is the answer.

Thanks,

Mark

All those variables essentially relate directly to pump run time / time in the cut / abrasives used ?

Are the number of pierces a significant factor?

You get the best use of materials from sheet, is using bar a problem / increased setup time/costs?

How do you keep the material straight when handling such large thin floppy sheets?
