Hey guys, quick question for those of you who use waterjet.

I started about 2 months ago on getting some friction folder blades and some fixed blades cut out. I am not going to name the company but they are very popular amongst knife makers.

He got the email and promised some prototypes in about 2 weeks, then no answers. I gave him a call and he said he was backed up about another 2 weeks so I was willing to wait, it has been about a month since I talked to him and havent been able to contact him recently.

Now I have been the only one making any calls as he kind of sucks with communication.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I left a message with his secretary about three days ago and left a message today, he may be at blade or coming back from blade right now.

thanks again guys, I just don't know if waiting 2 months is reasonable and my summer is ticking away.

Call Uncle Aldo........um, unless he's the one to which you're referring.

No, in my opinion it is not reasonable. My suggestion is for you to be as professional as possible. For example, send formal RFQs in pdf format with company letterhead and an itemized list. Send clean dxf files of your patterns. Communicate that you expect a response to the RFQ within 3 days. Issue a formal PO with a due date in the same manner, and ask for confirmation that your order has been received. Expect your vendor to treat you with the same level of professionalism and communication. Move on to a new vendor if they don't.

Thanks man, will take you're advice seriously.

I had a similar issue with a well known reputable vendor. Took me 2 1/2 months start to finish. They promised alot, didn't deliver much without alot of followup calls and emails. I won't be using them again.

At this point, you're several months into it. Tough it out. Be a pest, and they'll get your work done eventually. Use somebody else next time.

I receive calls with stories like this every week.
Communication varies greatly from customers and the service providers.
Good communication greases the skids.

I'll give an example of how good Mark at Leading Edge Fabrication (H20 Knife) is. We sent him a sheet of titanium and a billet of Timascus.

Day 1 - The materials were received
Day 2 - The materials were cut
Day 3 - The materials were shipped back

When we received the parts, the quality was excellent.

We've worked with many waterjet cutting companies. Mark is the best.

Chuck

Can confirm: I worked with waterjets as a day-job for many years and turned out thousands of parts. Mark/H2O Knife cut quality is some of the best I've ever seen. Turn-around time and service are right up there too. I do remember they had trouble with my spline-based dxf files. Make sure yours are lines and arcs only.

If you are using someone that has " large bodies of water" in his company name, I had similar and worst happen with my order.

I Use Jay @

Fast, reliable and courteous! One time he sent back a Cad proof back three times to make absolutely sure that we had every right on a first run of one of my culinary patterns.. He then Nested, cut and shipped in two days.

He has mine on file now.

You deserve better than that for your hard earned money!

No idea what you're talking about with bodies of water , but I would like to keep negative names out.

I think I will let these other guys redeem themselves, if they can't, I will go to h2o first, based upon recommendations.

Its all up to you and I'm sure H20 is excellent by the endorsements that have been given.

To me, getting put off like that is insulting and there are other Water jet suppliers that will treat you right.

I hope it all works out well for you.
