Waterproof and or windproof lighters ?

I've seen the peanut lighters, but they all seem to be the same cheaply made re-branded lighters, are there any worthwhile, good quality, small waterproof and if possible windproof lighters?
Thanks

Cant go wrong with a good firesteel and some wet fire tinder. I do have a Bic lighter but I don't really use it. It's kinda there for melting the ends of the 550 cord.

Although I appreciate the comments, I already have firesteels, magnesium, bic lighters, butane torches, matches in waterproof cases etc. I would just like information on lighters.
Thanks again.:)

I don't own one, but I've heard Zippos work very well. Plus they're cool.

Ya know what I have found that works really well, are the torch flame butane lighters. I have several (mainly for lighting cigars :D ), but I now keep one in my pack.

That said, I also keep alternate fire making materials. The biggest concern for torch flame lighters is altitude. I've had some trouble at altitudes of > 10K ft. YMMV...

Zippos are great, the only problem is you need to keep them fueled fairly regularly, the lighter fluid tends to either dry out if unused or consumed from regular use.

I have a peanut lighter from countycomm, they work very well and there is nothing cheap about them. I filled it up once with zippo fluid and close to a year later it still lights with one try.

Zippos suck, the fuel lasts a few days max and they always seem to take a million strikes to light. Worst lighters ever. I have a bunch that I received as gifts and I have half a mind to toss them out.

I used to carry a small zippo filled and sealed with some clear packing tape in an altoids with a small candle. Forgot all about it until I read this thread, so I dug it out, untaped it and it fired right up. Been in there about five years.
Arkanian is right, if you're going to carry one make sure it's fueled when you leave or seal it up good. Keep a spare flint in it too.

Slide a ranger band around the Zippo and it will keep the fluid from evaporating.

I like to have a decent lighter around just in case even though I don't smoke. I got a Brunton Firestorm. I'm happy.

Lol I bought a Zippo years ago and was annoyed to find out that my fuel evaporated before I used the silly thing twice. Accordingly, I put it aside... somewhere...

Thanks to that info though, now I need to find the danged thing and give it another go. You rock!

Now - where did I put it?

Could also try a zippo like I have for the cool factor and just buy the seperate little torch butane inserts for the zippo and remove the original, its very windproof that's what I have its much better than the fluid insert becouse although the fluid one is windproof its kinda hard to light something in the wind the flames all over the place as for the butane torch insert the flames pretty much concentrated like a light saber no matter were the winds blowing. And u still get the cool zippo sound and all lol.

What inserts are you talking about? They sound like something I should be looking for....

Do you just slide it around the seam that the lid makes? I'm more than irritated with how quickly it dries out, so I mostly just use mine when I'm working with paracord.

I keep a zippo around just for fun. If you learn tricks they make a great little camp toy to keep you occupied. I hate that the fuel leaks out though, I will have to try the ranger band idea, first I need to buy some more fluid.......

A zippo requires some maintenance and upkeep in order to work properly. A mechanical clock will not work if you don't wind it. Doesn't mean it's a bad clock.

Smokers never have issues with their zippo b/c they use them and fill them daily.

I would look at a butane cigar torch lighter by Colibri or Xikar.

Alternatively, google "creme brulee torch" or "kitchen torch"
