I'm looking for a smaller folding pocket-type utility/defensive knife for 24/7 pocket carry that takes advantage of advances in materials such that I can take it literallywhere, even swimming, water ski'ing, etc. I looked at some Gerber knives with titanium or teflon coatings; anybody have a good candidate to recommend? What about among the Gerbers? Thanks...

Seconded. The best STEEL folder for water use, there are some other ones made of cobalt based materials IIRC, the Salt series are excellent.

fourthed ? ...... i edc a atlantic salt , plain edge , haven't had any thing that beats it ....

H1 dont rust

FRN handels are nice 'n light and gripy

14mm(?) spyder hole opens real easy even if u have gloves on

sheeps foot blade means if u drop it you ain't gunna stab your foot , also real sheeple friendly ( unless someone recones its a cut-throat razor)

sharpens real easy too

Sixthed (??)

I have both the Tasman and Salt 1, excellent blades and never a problem with rust.

and until the H1 Dyad from spyderco comes out they are the perfect combo for me.

One of the Salt series of knives as has already been mentioned or one like the Boker Turbine folder in X-15 T.N. steel which is also made in a similar way as the H1 steel is that you will find in the Spyderco Salt series. Both of these steels are said to be completely rust free.
