Wave a Spyderco Native?

I am thinking about buying an Endura 4, but wondered if I should first try out the "waving" action. I have a Spyderco Native. Is it possible to tie a plastic zip tie around the opening hole to get the same effect? I've seen pictures of people doing this but wondered if it made sense for the Native.

Thanks,
Michael

A large-size zip tie is a decent imitation of a wave. It will give you a basic feeling for the wave, especially in jeans, where the stiffer seams make it work well. In general, a real wave works better and more reliably than a ziptie wave. They'll both work fine when you're in your jeans, standing in your living room. When you move to pants with looser seams (dockers, sweats) and try opening under a bit of pressure, you'll probabably find you start getting misses with the ziptie.

But, again, you can get a basic feel with a ziptie.

Thanks, Joe.

I couldn't find a zip tie, but I got a similar result twist-tying a metal picture hangar (the kind you nail into a wall to hold the wire behind a picture frame.) The bent shape from the picture hangar is actually pretty similar to a real Wave. It might actually be better at catching seams.

In any case, I got a good feel for the Wave action. It's a lot of fun.

Best,
Michael

mdarby, could you post some pics of that? I'm very interested, as the only other ways I've heard to wave your own knife involve a zip tie or a dremel!
