Hi guys- I just opened the box on a new wave and noticed there is play in both blades, Is this normal, I haven't seen a wave in person till now and like it other than this item. The file and saw lock up tight and I think I have a return issue. Thanks and God Bless-paul

Mines that way to. Let me know how it works out for you if try to rectify the situation through the warranty.

No play in mine, either.
Looks like a random thing. Being a fussy sort, I would be annoyed if the baldes were loose.

I had no shoes and wept...until I met a man who had no feet. Cheapest pair of shoes I ever bought.

Tight Blades here!
Doing my part to check in,

I bought one for my brother & he, in turn, bought one for his son. The blades were tight on both. I'll let you know on mine as soon as my Mercata order arrives.

OK, I was brave and tried mine again after my thumb healed from the thin clip blade slicing a bit of flesh. (I opened it in a non-standard grip)
Anyway the clip blade has just the slightest hint of vertical play, none on the serrated.

Mine are too tight!! I'm in the process of making up a five-lobe security torx to adjust them to my liking. Warranty? Don't need no steenkin' warranty.

Stay Sharp! Chris

I just checked the one I bought my dad for Christmas, it has been used alot and everything is still solid.

My Wave has tight blades and the pliers don't pinch either. I have used it several times.

Just got mine on Thursday from Mercarta.com and the blade are TIGHT with no play!

tallpaul,

Have you tried to tighten up the tension with an allen hex wrench or no? Just a thought - not sure how your is with out handling it. Not sure if that will eliminate the play.

Maddog, The liner lock or the blade back seem short and lets a vertical play, I am trying to figure out whether to give it back to mercata, who by the way is ok with returning it,paying for shipping etc,but I just want another and I haven't talked to them yet. So far they say,in e-mail to return for credit then reorder, but then I loose the deal. I called leatherman and they said no problem send it to them and I am leaning in that direction- I will loose shipping but it will be right.(I HOPE) Thanks for all who responded and I still hate moving! I don't know what is worse-moving a few miles away a little at a time (me this time)or far away all at once.

No blade play on the LM Wave I got for X-mas,
but the linerlock on the straight edege blade would not engage fully so I sent it back to the warrenty dept.

I did have some blade play develop on a Endura (plastic clip ver.)that I purchased a year ago. Sent it back and received a new steel clip version about a month later, thanks Spyderco.

Glad no one listens to me THAT well - you need some very special torx wrenches to do the adjustments anyway....LOL. There is a small POST in the middle of the torx head - nothing a lathe and a drill wouldn't fix on the end of a std torx wrench. Sorry for my error.

I hate sending stuff back ..... the companies are great at returns and such, but it is the wait that bothers me sometimes.

I have some vertical play on some knifes and I should mail them in as well.

The Wave I got for Christmas is tight, no complaints except out of the box the plain blade had a flat spot (edge rolled) right at the 'belly'. Bummer, does anyone know if the blade geometry matches the Spyd. 204?

A knife is by default a tool, it's only a weapon when a human chooses to make it so.

Both blades on my Wave have significant vertical play. The clip has significant side-to-side play.
