Wave feature, have you ever been cut by it?

Hello everyone,

I am considering a Zt/Emerson but am lukewarm on the Wave feature. It seems cool, but I am concerned that I will slice open my finger(s) while reaching for it in my pocket if it "waves" open. Have you ever been cut while pulling your waved knife out of your pocket? If so, was it your fault (I've cut myself on a few of my knives and it was me, not the knife) or do you feel it was the wave feature.

I guess I could always grind the wave off if I didn't like it.

Thanks for your help guys.

Never. And everything I own is waved.

Kershaw Emerson CQC-4K, first time waving, halfway opened, stuck in pocket. Reached in, snapped closed on my finger. Nearly lost the finger at the third knuckle. Doc said I was lucky.

I have several waved knives, and I've never cut myself with them. I have a hard time imagining it cutting you accidentally unless you use a very sloppy technique.

For most instances I've heard of, it was when someone was trying take the knife out without waving it, and an inadvertent partial opening ended up with a cut.

Ah, I didn't think about that . If you want to safely remove a waved knife from your pocket without waving you generally need to grab it with your thumb against the spine of the blade, preventing partial deployment. I can see how someone new to waving might miss that particular tidbit.

Yep, I was lucky and learned without getting cut...but if I'd been in a hurry I might not have noticed.

Now I always make sure the blade is kept safely closed if I don't want it waved open. :)
(I use my middle finger to hold it closed, but same thing...actually I just checked, and sometimes I use my thumb...oh well, as long as I don't get cut. :D)

Never been cut per say, but I have had some part of the blade contact just the tip of my finger when I wave something open particularly fast/hard. Hasn't happened in a while so I cant remember exactly how it happens.

Yep. I've almost cut myself a few times on my DPx HEST/Fs early on because of the "pseudo-Wave" bottle opener. In fact, I think I might have cut myself early on once or twice. My wife once scared her self and almost cut her self once because she went to get my knife out of my pocket to use it and it came out half open.

Probably part of the reason I'm not a huge fan of the Wave.

I have not been cut or even close and I carry a DPX Folder, ZT0620 or Southern Grind Bad Monkey most of the time! Once you are used to it I don't think it is an issue!

Yep, got bit pretty bad one time and had a few near misses. Thought about removing it on my CQC7 but I like the thumb ramp aspect and the overall look of the blade with the wave.

I have a couple of Emersons with the wave. Never been cut because of the wave. It is a great way to open your knife. Just practice and you will be fine. Please don't grind your wave I think you'll love it. Emerson Super CQC 7 and CQC 8.

The above happened to me - trying to get the knife out of my pocket while I was driving - did not come out first try, opened slightly, then when I went back into my pocket I cut my finger on the end of the blade.

Bleeding like a stuck pig in traffic driving a manual trans car with dress clothes.

Yea - I felt stupid.

I have never repeated that little escapade.

Yes, a Spyderco Endura Wave. As other people before me, I went to take it out without waving it open, it caught, I repositioned, and I found the knife partially open. With my finger. On the edge.

Not cut bad, but it was annoying.

I've been caught by the tip but it was my fault. Like another post earlier, sloppy technique. I don't buy "waved" folders to end up removing the feature. If you play with a lot of knives, you'll eventually get cut.
