Hopefully these pictures attach properly. First time posting pics...

So I waited about a day and a half before waving my 0560. I included a picture of a waved Spyderco Chinook that I waved many years ago. The 0560 wave works great - better than the Chinook actually. I left it pretty sharp so over time I'm sure it will eat up some pockets.

Hope you enjoy,

Scdub

Ha - apparently not.

Will do a bit of reading and try again.

Hurry up we want to see pics.

I post my pics up on photbucket or some other photo web hoster and click the insert photo button and paste the address, its not to hard once you get the hang of it.

Ya kinda of tricky and a major pain IMO. Figure it out soon, I gotta see this...

Yeah - it works really well - 100% as long as I keep pressure on the spine of the blade as I draw. Due to the KVT action, it only takes a bit of a hook to snap the blade out.

Wow I am so stupid. I JUST realized why it's called a wave... Because it looks like an actual wave. I always thought wave was the name of an Emerson knife, and that the term just stuck when regarding to other knives that have this mechanism.

If I had a 0561 I wouldn't mind chopping up, and the machining talent, I'd try to dovetail part of the spine and cut an external wave that fits into the dovetail, then epoxy both after getting the finish on the external part to match.

Ya I like the idea, its like the bottle opener notch on a Lion Steel/DPx HEST folder.

NOW YOU NEED TO TAKE A YOUTUBE VIDEO OF THE ACTION.

scdub, nice execution of the wave, very inconspicuous- seems to flow with the existing design.

...lol...it's all good...

Your waved 0560 looks nice and is the first wave I've ever actually liked. I can't say I like it on the Spyderco, and I don't like it on the Emersons, but that little wave really flows in to the natural lines of the 0560! Great job!

I have to admit I was prepared to cringe and roll my eyes and shake my head. Not long ago someone waved a rare Blur and made a mess of it, and then wanted to sell it for 3 times the value of an un-F'ed up one because it was "improved", if it was you.. well.. I'm not sorry, it was seriously f'ed up. If it was a common Blur it wouldn't have been so painful to see. I have a love of Blurs.. and waves.. well.. I've had boxers with docked tails..my guy now (my avatar) has got a little nubbin at the back end. I don't want a dog butt on my knife!

Thanks - I think it looks good too.

The Blur wasn't me, and yeah - I know that Chinook is godawful to look at, but it sure comes out fast.

I have no idea how to post onto YouTube and probably never will, but I swear this one works great. If anyone really needs to see a video (before taking the plunge) I can email something directly. It was a hard decision because I wasn't 100% sure it would work.

(but it does!)

;-)

I used a dremmel with a small diameter ~ 1/8" cylindrical carbide cutting tip.

I drew on the blade with a pencil a few times but when it came to it I just went freehand - slowly. Probably spent about 1-2 hours grinding and about another hour sanding (used 220, 400, 600 grit wrapped around a big nail).

One thing to watch out for: the top swedge in my knife was not ground symmetrically in the factory (off by maybe an eighth of an inch - one side extends farther back than the other) this doesn't bother me, but it did almost cause a problem... I didn't realize until I started cutting that you DON'T want to cut into that swedge - it will look bad. I ended up having to leave just a little "hump" right in front of the wave. Would rather have removed it to enhance performance, but if I had it would have thinned one side of the wave causing it to look uneven. I'll post a pic of the other side of the knife tomorrow - worth 1000 words, etc.

Also very important: tape/wrap your knife to protect from debris. Clamp knife in vise before working on it. Don't let any heat build up - test with bare fingers frequently.

Thanks scdub. Might give this a try. Been eyeing up a roadhouse. But i like the frame lock and better steel on my 0560. Will waving my 0560 kill my warranty? Can you post a picture of the bit you used? Thanks

finefolders, the warranty guarantees that the product will be free of defects. If you send the knife in with the blade broken where you cut into it = not covered. Otherwise, unless ZT thinks a modification caused the problem, it should be fine.

I'm attaching the requested pic of the bit and the opposite side of the blade - you can see where the swedge comes right up to the cutout on this side of the knife - any further forward and it will look wrong...

BTW: someone asked about a video so I made one - is that something I could link with Photobucket too or does it have to go through youtube???

Thanks!
