Waved 0560 (and Chinook)

I figured you had used a drill press. It looks good, you took a huge risk with a fairly expensive and limited availability knife... You deserve a round of applause. If all waved knives looked that good and flowed in the design rather than appearing thrown on as an afterthought I'd probably love them. I'll be sticking with the flipper rather than taking the risks but thanks for posting pics and such as love the wave or hate it this is an interesting thread.

I really don't like the looks of the wave on any knife but that has to be the classiest one I've ever seen. It really blends with the knife.

I'm kinda new to the whole knife thing...how does a wave help with opening?

Cause you can do this
(just watch the first 10 seconds)

Why, because he can. I'm usually not one for waved knives but its really unobtrusive, nice work

Hey OregonKnifeNerd,

I saw you mention the rare Blur that got waved. That was a rough one.

Did you ever happen to see that Benchmade Skirmish that some guy waved, or attempted to wave? Essentially he just cut off the back half of the blade and just left a little nub from the back side of the last hole, sp he was left with this skinny little crooked blade with a weird protrusion. Not only did he totally ruin a beautiful knife with some half-assed idea, but carved initials and nicknames and crap all into the Titanium handles, and then had the idea to sell it on ebay for the same price as the Limited Edition Skirmishes about 3 months ago. Somehow, millions of avid knife collectors did not find that their hard earned money was worthy of such an atrocity and it didn't sell.

I actually think he came on here and sold it and then jumped in a bunch of people's shyte when they commented on how utterly horrendous he had made that knife. Broke my heart b/c I was on the hunt for a Skirmish at the time.

Anyway, on to this 560........I actually like the wave on this knife. I think you could actually take it a little deeper and towards the pivot a little more and it would still look good. I've been on a modification trend myself....putting choils on knives that don't have them...YET. The 560 actually looks pretty badass with a choil, but I'm not gonna tear up my 0560CBCF

I think the Emerson wave (not what Ernie calls it though, because there's a patent on some other "wave" thing) is the best opening innovation since autos, at least for self defense. Basically it turns the weak side folder into the effective equivalent of a fixed blade. And the whole thing was "discovered" completely by accident. I may try that modification on my 561 or I may buy a blem and try it. I've been mulling over what to get a marine friend of mine that could potentially save his life and had just about decided on a Roadhouse because of the wave feature. But the materials, fit, and finish on a ZT 0560 is better and that implementation doesn't take away at all from the design/style (although I still really like the Roadhouse).

I have two knives with a wave. One is an Emerson and the other a Fox.

Wow I am so stupid. I JUST realized why it's called a wave... Because it looks like an actual wave. I always thought wave was the name of an Emerson knife, and that the term just stuck when regarding to other knives that have this mechanism.

Don't feel bad. When I first started taking political science I kept hearing people refer to the "Why no socialism?" literature. It is basically about the fact that (until recently anyway) Americans resisted socialism. Even Marx's buddy Friederich Engels wrote about it. But I just heard it, didn't see it written down, so I was trying to figure out why winos would be into socialism? I will never live that down.

I'm trying to do with with a 1/8th inch carbide drill bit and a drill press, and am not having much luck. Have been drilling for about 15 minutes and have barely made a nick. I periodically drop a little oil on the spot because that's supposed to help keep the bit from dulling. How fast should I be running the Dremel? Really fast, really slow? I'm trying not to put too much pressure on it too.

Yeah, I'm getting nowhere. Another half hour and the project hasn't advanced at all. Maybe I shouldn't be using a drill bit, even a carbide one? Very frustrating. This material is HARD!

Sounds like you may have hardened the metal more. You're probably not applying enough force.

Wow - I like a wave on a knife, only after I owned one that had the feature (HEST F) -

I was a little afraid of what I might see when I clicked this thread, but I am happy to see a very well executed mod to a ZT0560 -

Well done - thanks for the pictures!

best
