Waved a skirmish.....

i would get one of the low profile clips like folks put on cammilus maxx's or something similar, they only run like $6 or so, and the knife looks ok like that (better than i thought it would) but that clip has gotta go, funky imho.

i thought about chnging my skirmish to tip up and was gonna use the low profile carry clip i have always thought the skirmish clips looked "cheeesy".

Where would the clips be at? Only issue is the handle already being tapped. Guess I could make a clip to fit, it carries well like this, better than I would have thought.

You could always call Benchmade, and get a clip for the 635 mini-Skirmish, and might work better. I called them, and they sent me a new clip with screws which I put on my 630 Skirmish, and it works alot better than the long flimsy original clip.

dang it i think its texas knifemakers supply/something like that, somebody help me here lol, i used to have it bookmarked but my PC crashed/etc.

and the mini clip might work also, when i was thinking about mod'ing mine the mini had just came out.

Be careful with waving your knives. The only person I know of that has permission from Ernest is STR.

Why would he need permission to wave his own knife? He'd only need to work something out with Ernie if he planned on selling/marketing it.

Although the holes are already tapped, I bet a different clip would really make that knife look a lot better. Knifekits.com has good clips (especially for framelocks) by DDR.

that only applys if you are trying to sell it on a commercial scale.

Oh boy. Here we go again. You can Wave all your own knives if you want to and no one can say anything about it, well they can but it doesn't matter unless its the factory or maker of the knife telling you that you no longer have a warranty.

You are not doing anything illegal, immoral or wrong to modify your own knife, and anyone that tells you otherwise is misinformed. No one would legally have a foot to stand on about what you do with your own property. I paid for legal counsel over this as well as having discussions with people in the know such as Sal Glesser and Ernie Emerson before I obtained Ernie's blessing to do this mod for forum members. I know what I'm talking about here. You are fine don't worry about it. There is only one forum out there where you will see the members jumping you, chewing you up and spitting you out for this action and although its a bit of a sore spot with me because it is making a mountain out of a mole hill I'd just say avoid posting this stuff on that forum and you'll be fine.

Waving a knife may lead to trouble if you start selling the Waved knives you make for a profit after you have Waved them but even that is a gray area if you are modifying existing folders already made and out there in the public hands. Both my legal advisor and Ernie confirmed this with me when he said in his conversation with me that he didn't think permission was even necessary for what I was wanting to do.
I just asked out of respect for him and what I felt was his intellectual property. Sometimes the law doesn't really cover what is right and what is wrong. If Ernie told me he would rather I not do any at all I'd have never done even one whether it is right or wrong or anywhere inbetween.

In all likelyhood you could and most likely would run into legal trouble with Ernie or Mr. Demko (another patent holder for a similar add on Wave style opening device) if you are making your own knives and Waving them without permission.

Trust me on this. "It would be a waste of Ernie Emerson's precious time to write him about permission to Wave your own knife. This will only add to his already overfilled inbox. There is no reason to ask a question that doesn't need to be asked in the first place."

By the way. All I get is a sign up page for the web hosting site you linked to and no picture. Is there some trick to seeing your knife that I'm missing?

Ok now I get the pic for some reason.

Looks good but we really need to get you a better looking blue jean blue clip on that baby thats curved the right way and color matched to the body of the folder. :D

i agree with STR on this if its your own knife and ya arent selling them/mod'ing them for others there is absolutly nothing wrong with what ya are doing, imho anyway. surely ernie has enough going on that this would be of no concern to him, he needs to start working on my custom if he doesnt lol.
